Finding a playable dayz server is like finding a unicorn

Recommended Posts

On average, I probably try about 2-3 servers before I find one that isn't desyncing.

Then that server turns out to has horrific graphical artefacts, so it's onto server number 4.

After (yet another) 5-10 minute wait just to get past the loading screen, I get in, only to find there's some crazy hacking shit going down in cherno, whole place is on fire.

This is not a complaint about DayZ, so don't come with the usual 'alpha ALPHAAAAAA *FROTH FROTH* ALPHA1111!!!' BS.

What needs to happen is there needs to be SOME sort of min spec for servers, to at least reduce the loading times and desycning shit.

We can't test the alpha if the DayZ dev team continues to white list ANYONE to host a server.

Hosting servers on home PC's or in low quality data centres shouldn't be allowed.

sigh. artefacts aren't server specific. you can easily sort your settings to get rid of them.

choose better, most of the servers I go on with mates are absolutely fine.

or, horror of horrors, find a home server and stick to it.

I never said nor implied that they were.

(though technically, the cause of them is)

every server will have this dude, its a bug in the newest patch so u cant avoid it.

i assume you mean the crazy shapes that fill your screen every time you loo toward a key location like NW airfield, cherno elektro, ne airfield etc...

its cus of barb wire i think, so pretty much any military area or place of interest that would have barbed wire you will get this graphical glitch.

Ok guys, the point I'm trying to make is that servers need oversight/min spec.

Apart from the fact you did, and then edited your post to change how you worded it.

The cause isn't server specific.

Thats an Arma 2 bug, has nothing to do with hacking my little friend.

In your filter type "quick-" and those servers are all extremely fast I've noticed, never any problems with em'

What happens when you home server is super popular because of competition and stability and hackers/exploiters live there?

Can we start banning yet?

No? Thanks Rocket.

you honestly believe if a server admin gathers sufficient proof that someone is hackign and bans them anyone will be disgruntled by it?

I spent about 2 hours earlier trying to get on a working server -_-, every attempt giving me the Loading screen for 30+ seconds which is when I give up and try another. Then the first 2 I succeeded on getting on both didn't know what time GMT was, so GMT-8 which worked out at about 7am at the time, ended up being 1am and pitch black -_-. Same with a GMT-6 server.

Then... after a few more attempts I did get on a server, but no matter what I did to my settings I couldn't get more than 10fps which was unplayable, I found that same story on 2 more servers. Then I FINALLY found a working server. And spent about 4 hours on it because I don't know when I'll be able to join another one.

I did find out that I can't get on any servers hosted by Vilayer, GamingDeluxe or Alpha-Networks. Just could not connect to any of them, and they host a LOT of servers. Every successful attempt I had was with servers hosted by just a players name in the server name.

Was such a pain.

If admins don't like the rules, then don't host servers?

Stop acting like it's hard to find a semi-decent server to play on.

All this "sky is falling" stuff is getting really really old.

It can be hard to find a server if....

You're trying to find one that's working, lowly populated and in the daytime, probably for the purpose of getting easy grabs on a major military looting areas.

Those artefact bugs with everything stretching like crazy, those seem to be rampant around Stary Sobor.

I try to play servers with at least 40 players online.

I can't believe people are even disagreeing that finding a decent server is WAY too hard.

It really isn't, just host your own if it's such a big deal.

Oh, so instead of looking for a stable server you want something that nobody plays so you can just loot till your pretty little arms get tired and then log into populated servers? I have no sympathy for your cause.

It's not hard.

Today's been a little frustrating mostly due to me having problems actually getting in-game, and then the few times I've been able to in a reasonable time, I've either bugged or been hacked.

I think it's a sign to take a break and get some RL stuff done in the meantime.

I'm sure tomorrow will be better.

Most servers are just fine, but sometimes it take a while until you've found a server that satisfies your preferences.

If you can do without seeing your position on the map and without the reticle, try finding a Vet server with a low ping in your desired timezone. Vet servers are usually low-pop, and most don't go above 20 players at a time. That takes out the issue of trying to find a low-pop server, so all you have to worry about is finding one with a nice ping.

I never wait for 30 minutes to join a server. If it isn't loading within 10 minutes, I relaunch the game and try a different server.
