Dankine 377 Posted August 2, 2012 Nothing works 100% but they certainly work better than battleye. Compared to Arma2 you rarely see hackers in games protected by VAC or Punkbuster.far from true.
YouCan'tGetRidOfMe 4 Posted August 2, 2012 I have a 3K computer that I built myself. Every game runs flawlessly on high to ultra high settings. This game, I have set on low (for PvP and performance -- haha, performance, in an Arma engine... what a joke).Basically, when the majority say it smells like shit in here, there is probably a turd in a corner somewhere. Tha turd is BI.
Persason 15 Posted August 2, 2012 The engine it'self is actually really good, really mod-welcome, and friendly to developers. The engine's security is a different story, it's a good engine.Did you just say that the engine is good? The engine is terrible and sytem demanding. It eats up most people computer power without even delivering pretty graphics. I have a GTX 570 and an I5 2500k I should be able to run this game at least on medium settings with a flat 60 fps but I cant. Its laggy, I get about 30 fps which is not good enough on my system at all. Now it will be interesting to see how the Arma 3 engine will be like because according to the devs it will be less system demanding and prettier :D. The Arma engine is mod welcome though that is true :) However once the game goes standalone we couldn't care less.I think the reason why Rocket keeps on saying that the Arma 2 engine is good is because it can render such a huge world most engines cannot! The arma 2 engine wins on that point but looses on most other points. Then again he has to say that it is a "good" engine because he works for Bohemia, I think he would like to keep his job :P
DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) This game, I have set on low (for PvP and performance -- haha, performance, in an Arma engine... what a joke). You must have spent 3k on a lemon then, because I'm running DayZ on very high settings, normal antialiasing, ATOC+FXAA, with post-processing disabled and my computer is not cutting edge as it once was. I'm using an i5 2500k and a GTX 580. And it certainly didn't cost me 3k. Edited August 2, 2012 by Ulfhedjinn
NightRipper 284 Posted August 2, 2012 While I don't have a problem being patient, the delay doesn't make me particularly optimistic that we'll be seeing a standalone any time soon. But whatever, I didn't make the mod, so IMHO the devs who are making it can take as long as they damn well please.
random51 172 Posted August 2, 2012 not likely. the bug existed in 1.7.2.3 i used to hit it often. restarting the client fixes it. the bug has been around for a while, but it is getting exposed a bit more in 1.7.2.4. i doubt he has any problems other than he's running an alpha stage mod that has bugs.Actually that was a different bug with the same visual effect. Before 1.7.2.4 the problem was with user-placed barbed wire. That appears to have been fixed---at least on my PC---and the problem is now with static dead soldier models.Whatever they're doing that messes up these models they need to stop doing. Put this one to bed already.

I also feel bad about having to buy Arma 2 to play Dayz, this means that I supported the shit company bohemia crapactive..... but then again I really wanted to play Dayz. I payed 25 euros for a crap company just to play a mod that a single man created haha :D

Then again he has to say that it is a "good" engine because he works for Bohemia, I think he would like to keep his job :PNice post, but you're a bit wrong. Looking at it from a programming stand-point the "engine" is the overall functionality, of the thing that the game runs on. For example, Gears of War was a game I'm not so happy about, and there was a lot of issues for people. The "engine" it was programmed on, is the most renown engine of all time, Unreal Engine.Just because the game has issues, does not mean it's the engine's fault. ArmA 2's Engine, is a great engine.Actually that was a different bug with the same visual effect. Before 1.7.2.4 the problem was with user-placed barbed wire. That appears to have been fixed---at least on my PC---and the problem is now with static dead soldier models.Whatever they're doing that messes up these models they need to stop doing. jukaga 271 Posted August 2, 2012 You must have spent 3k on a lemon then, because I'm running DayZ on very high settings, normal antialiasing, ATOC+FXAA, with post-processing disabled and my computer is not cutting edge as it once was. I'm using an i5 2500k and a GTX 580. And it certainly didn't cost me 3k.Running on Very High settings, normal AA and I get 40-60 fps consistently. This is on a I7 laptop with a 460M card. Remember to have that video memory setting to default.

The game does not give me 60 fps as it should.... It doesn't look good. Also remember that most people haven't a rig as ours they should be able to run this game too! It isn't even good looking but runs like crap. I need 60 fps to be satisfied at least 50 and I rarely get it.
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted August 2, 2012 It's kind of sad. The most game-changing update I've needed so far has had no communication for over 55 hours.Oh. My. GAWD.55 hours.Someone get a fucking flail so we can whip these lazy motherfuckers raw.Seriously, though. Please shut the fuck up.

Have you got video memory set to default? If you put it on very high it'll cap your VRAM usage at 512MB, but if you leave it on default it'll auto-detect how much you have.As for people with weaker machines, I agree they should be able to run it too, and that's what lower settings are for. The settings we're using are quite good and, in my opinion at least, look pretty nice.

DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted August 2, 2012 You seem like a nice chap. He's got a point though. There's something intensely #firstworldproblems about whining because a patch for an alpha of a mod is 55 hours late.

izodn 37 Posted August 2, 2012 The point was to get across that the thread containing the information was locked 55 hours ago. Locked. That's why there's no update on it, and i'm only complaining since the game is unplayable until it's released.

That's why there's no update on it, and i'm only complaining since the game is unplayable until it's released. It might have been more suited to the support forum though, as I know there are a few workarounds for this graphics bug (your mileage may vary). Unfortunately the bug also seems to be related to the recent ArmA beta patches and not the DayZ patch itself, as it's an old problem in the ArmA engine.Mess with the graphics settings, try the shift+minus/flush command, restart your client and/or computer, and see how it fares until the patch comes out. A friend of mine has this bug really bad and these solutions always fix it in the end.

I was having framerate problems myself until a friend pointed out the video memory thing, I know how you feel man.Another tip I can give you is to go to your user folder in Windows and look for \Documents\ArmA 2\ArmA2OA.cfg, if you open that with notepad and look for the following commands you should change them to read as follows:GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;By default they might be set to something like 1000 and it's pointless. Also, editing the \Documents\ArmA 2 Other Profiles\profile name\profilename.ArmA2OAProfile to read as follows might help too:sceneComplexity=1000000; Edited August 2, 2012 by Ulfhedjinn
