What the fuck? Where's the persistence?

You know, the shit that saves your progress when you log out? I don't care if it's alpha or theta, this is is just a suggestion.

Anyway, there should be persistence in the game world that carries over to other servers. It's pretty much a deathmatch because everyone constantly forgets their server and switches to a new game world, etc. At this point in time if you finally spend 24 hours to repair a heli and then the server restarts, your progression is over. Same thing if I build wiring around a building and establish a base. As soon as I switch servers or it restarts, everything is lost. Thus, the only thing I want to do now is go and shoot survivors because at least my weapons and gear save. But I feel no real incentive to set up shop or get anything done.

AND I DON'T WANNA HEAR THE DAYZ FANBOYS WHO LOVE EVERYTHING BUT CHANGE commenting on this. From an argument perspective I see no reason against this at all. Potential arguments:

"This isn't CoD"

WTF? You're a dumbass. Making this game have more persistence makes it anything but CoD.

"This isn't an MMO, go back to WoW"

True, this is an army sim. Setting up bases and adding persistence only adds to the sim experience

"Kiddies would box themselves in and live like that"

Not really. Also, this happens in any zombie apocalypse. You find shelter. They'd still have to go out to hunt for food etc.

"I'm still a retard who thinks this shouldn't be added"

You need to play on the same server. If everyone was placing wire and it was persistent then it would be literally everywhere.

Instead of bitching, why don't you tell us how you would implement vehicles and buildings across servers and try to think about the pitfalls before you post those suggestions.

Things do persist provided you stay on the same server.

Stop and consider how your suggestion would actually work, though, moving things from server to server...

You make a base on VA 16. You move to VA 14. You want your stuff to move with you? What if someone else on VA 14 already has his own base setup on that spot? Is he standing there having a nice time and POOF your 15 reams of barbed wire, 2 tents and a helicoptor plops down on his head?

Persistence is per-server. It has to be like that. Whatever you build on VA 16 stays on VA 16. It's supposed to persist through server crashes and resets but may be buggy still.

There is no reasonable way to make things persist on all servers as it has a lot of potential to interefere with what other people are doing.

(Although I do agree that you should be able to log out and take your vehicle with you if you are sitting in it when you log.)

Anyway, there should be maximum 5-10 servers. No one would place fucking wire everywhere there's not enough to go around. Using the same logic I can't move to LA because everyone opens up shops there. SO WHAT. It makes it more immersive, at least you could have the following situation:

"let's head to cherno"

"fuck that champ, it's run by the VAMP bandits!"

"good point let's rally and kill those bastards for their m4's"

as it stands now:

"anyone in cherno?"

"no"

EDIT: Slamz, no one plays on the same servers though. This is confirmed by the fact that every single game i go to people ask what server is this? IT'S DEATHMATCH MENTALITY.

It's really hard to tell if you are bitching or just neurotic as hell, but given the majority of people on this forum bitch incessantly, I erred on the side of caution.

It was a little hard to get what this thread was about, I had to read it several times. The only reason objects are local to a server, is because in cherno you would not be able to move because of the shit placed everywhere. And you would be running along and suddenly a sandbag would appear in front of you.

I tried this out for kicks once with a test server, loading in everyones data. It was completely unplayable.

It also would take a very very long time to load all those objects.

Increasing some aspects of persistence is a goal, maybe even extending your character loading to tents (they would spawn with you) and a bicycle (again, spawns with you) and some kind of companion (such as a dog).

I don't understand what you're mad about. Are you assuming that barricades and tents should be persistent too?

How would you like it if you were traveling through a town, and then, all of a sudden, you're stuck inside a barricade that someone created on another server?

I LOVE YOU. All I have wanted in this mod is a bicycle I can take to other servers. You have made all my dreams come true.

There's a reason why it is the way it is because of engine limitations.

I would post a lengthy reply on why it can't be done, but judging by your post history your not worth the time.

I like how this man has no ide what he's talking about, nor does he seem to understand the basic behind this game, so he starts yelling at people, swearing, cussing, and the like.

Honest if you've got a real suggestion that's all well and good, but if you're just going to come onto the forums to yell and bitch at people, try saying it to yourself in the mirror a few times first, y'know, test it a bit.

'cause frankly you come off as nothing but a mad little nine year old, if that. And I know some pretty mature nine year olds that'd put you to shame...

If it is as some say and staying on the same certain causes persistance in the game world then that is good enough. However if your persistant world is altered everytime the server rests then that just won,t do. We need to be able to set up our safe houses and our owl little Shangrillas from time to time. besisdes it takes days to fix a car.

Guys just ignore him hes a crybaby who comes up with suggestions that to everybody else is a bad idea but hes adamant their good its why alot of the other games get ruined because of idiots like himself making these kind of suggestions.

i like the idea of maybe the tent/bicycle and dog being with you on all servers that would be nice but again im very happy with the direction this mod is going in.

its bad enough you log out on a server then come back pick another and get stuck in that building because some idiot thought it would be good to play wirefencing all over the place on that server.

also its not hard to make a note of where all your tent/helicopter/car etc is just write down the server on notepad or a piece of paper for when you come back.

Vehicles, tents, wirefence and sandbags are saved - by the specific server.

Sharing that across servers would clutter up the world in a matter of hours, so no thanks.

5-10 servers? I don't think your in touch with the exploding amount of interest this MOD has and the fact that ARMA doesn't t run very well with more than 50-100 players on each server.

And take a deep breath before posting next time.

A 9 year old wouldn't even be able to spell persistence let alone post, come on you guys really need to stop lowering the age to get your point across. Before you know it you're going to think that 2 year old posts troll threads. The universally accepted minimal insult age is 12.

Anyway, I'm not sure why you guys have your panties in a bunch, I suggested more persistence and got the answer. Tents, bicycles, and a dog is definitely enough to keep me happy.

EDIT: Hell I even posted thank you and still people think I am for some reason "bitching" or "whining". I would of thought people in this forum were more hardcore and used to this type of shit..

Your suggestions would clog servers. Besides, your point about bases and stuff being set up, are still on the server. Most of the time, even after a reset. Do more research before you complain.
