who to trust and who not to?

So about a week ago or two now i first bought the game and came to the forum to find some other players to survive with and ended up finding a couple. After playing with two players (logan and jeff) their friends also joined our group so we had a good group of about 4-5 players and we did what every other group would do we raided airfields and cities till we got good gear and occasionally camped out stary for some murders for the fun of it and in hope of finding sd mags or nvgs. After playing for 2 weeks together and having good gear but still lacking some main things in the group, i had obtained a ghillie suit, nvgs, m4 sd along with a ak incase ammo was low for the sd. well i get on today and spawn in stary with jeff a kid who played not as much as other group members but was one of the first group members. Right after spawning in he says their is a sniper in the warehouse next to the tents (which is an odd place to snipe) but we took action and decided to rush in with me at the lead, after getting half way their i take 4-5 bullets to the back from jeff... Right after this they all deleted me on skype which concluded that it was all a set up. Later to hear from another member of the group who still remains friendly that jeff said i was going to set up 3 of the other members of the group and wanted his help.

So to sum up my story in a situatoin like day z you never know who you can trust?

You never know who you can trust in OR out of the game. It's a sad world. You know this guy, Jeff, is a freak in real life if he would be willing to do such an action. Sorry about your luck.

Thats because you are STILL mad about the whole dragon cave incident in Ultima Online.

Funny story though for anyone who is not him. We were playing Ultima Online and in the Dragon Cave (cant remember the name) training up skills and killing them. Well one thing leads to another (namely I did something stupid and agro'd about 8 dragons on me) and I am running for my life in a circuit around the dungeon with all of these dragons chasing me. I run past NotYou and the dragons stop momentarily, breath fire at him and kill him before starting to chase me again. Well I run back by him (now in ghost form) and stop long enough to cast a resurrect spell on him (trying to be nice) and then sprinted off again. Well the dragons stopped again and killed him as they ran past. I found this funny so I proceeded to continuously run by him, resurrecting him each time (at this point there was no confirmation on resurrections, they just happened to you). After about the 15th time I resurrected him and then he almost instantly died to dragons he logged off and quit the game. Still makes me chuckle to think about it.

You can't sum up human behavior statistically. You can't even sum it up briefly.

Most players will be uncooperative. Normally the only way to trust someone is if THEY get the drop on YOU and choose to let you live. I personally wouldn't recommend giving people chances. If you hold someone up, the most likely thing they'll do is spin to shoot immediately or talk you into lowering your gun so they can turn the tables.

Count eachother lucky if you genuinely gain your hostages trust.

It's a gamble when you take help from anyone. I would take any help provided by other players but only team up with people you trust outside of DayZ, whether that be real life friends or clan mates.

I tend to trust older people more.

No matter how genuine some people I've helped have sounded they still stabbed me in the back for no reason.

Most older players who sound above 30 have trekked to from NWAF to Stary to give me blood (these are random people too) or given me NVGs after giving me blood.
