Why are cars so rare in Chernarus?

Recommended Posts

Been playing about 3 or more hours a night for the past 3 weeks addicted. My friends and I searched high and low for cars. First time we stole a bus near Berezino and had a blast. 2 weeks later, friend found a van which lead us to travel the roads, run into two players in humvees, chased them down into a barricade and killed them and now had 2 vehicles. On our way to a hiding spot in the woods to call it a night we find a motorcycle. I'm pretty sure we used up all of our luck in terms of finding cars for the rest of the month but was still worth it for the 2 days we've been traveling in style.

The apocalypse has been going on for a while. All the cars have been used to either get out of the country or last-minute-car-sex-orgies-during-demolition-derbies parties.

That's why they're so few and far between.

"In the real world we would have options to take many cars... where are all the cars?

wtf is this, cars are so hard to find... if this was the real post apoc cars would be everywhere."

Heh.

Apparently OP doesn't understand the concept of aging gas, and the simple fact any care made after '79 is not hot wireable (from the movie perspective).

So, with that said... what is your gripe? I didn't read your post. Just figured that you are under the impression that you know what you are talking about.

Psst... you don't.

Well, this isn't America where cars are on every single street. Second, Dayz is based on a setting far into the Zombie apocalypse where very few people are alive and everything is corrupted.

uhh no.

Cars up to about the mid-90s are hotwireable, and thats irrelevant because Chernarus is like an ex-soviet nation which uses only outdated vehicles which means they should all be hotwireable.

There can't be too many cars roaming around, and besides, its a challenge to get them, and some people like the challenge

I remember some days ago I found a bike, an ATV, and a car all fully operational on Berezino's coast area basically on the main road. not all were in the same spot, but as I went south along the road I just kept finding them one after the other. I eventually decided to just stick with the bike though since it requires less maintenance and is sort of self repairing.

because of the following

  • vehicles can be stored well outside the map borders

They fixed this, try to keep up with updates/changelogs

Months of playing, and I saw my first motorbike yesterday. Have yet to see an operational car.

It will be one of the best Dayz days ever when you do :). When I found my red GAZ just sitting off a main road it was so good

I found an ATV once.

Someone crashed it into a tree while I was asleep. Yeah, I was pissed.

OK nononono

I'm asking

scenario- wise why are car's so rare

not server-wise like people hoarding them...

Realistically cars shouldn't be a rarity in a zombie apocalypse... Most people would die locally

Because this version of Cherarus was made for the Arma 2 expansion pack "Eagle Wing". Eagle Wing takes place during a nuclear apocalypse before and after. That's why the cars are all blown to scrap.

why are car's so rare in dayz? two reasons, 1 clans hoard them, and second reason Chernarus is supposed to be a backwater former Soviet republic. you know USSR the country you had to get on a waiting list to even get an apartment? and you didn't get a personal car unless you were someone high up in the communist party. better question is why aren't there more bikes.

Don't blame the clans.

They're moral enough to work together and use the correct tactics that you yourself cannot do in order to get vehicles.

Perks come with being in a clan, too.

I would love to see more survivors on bikes, especially if they could shoot at each other whilst cycling.... I had such a blast cycling through Cherno tinkling my bike bell.. imagine 20 people all doing that through town .....

next time i find a bike im going to start a paper round in elektro....

Someone like me! (:

The last week I have been riding around everywhere on my bike making noise (;

Only seen two people which is really really surprising because ive been going to all the places that are usually busy. One tried to shoot at me but I was going 71 down a hill and he could not get me. The other guy just stood there looking at me LOL.

I would LOVE to be riding around the country side and see someone else on a bike cruising around using the bikes bell lol.

because of the following

  • server hosts/admins lock their servers and take everything before it goes public
  • vehicles can be stored well outside the map borders
  • server hosts/admins can easily set a server to auto kick a player and repair a vehicle upon destruction (US 1340)
  • vehicles take 7 full days to respawn but hey an admin can work around this issue

I'm an admin of US1340. Just to let you know, we lost our helichopper mid-air due to script #54. And it disappeared. We're waiting 7 days for it to respawn now. Yes, we're working around this issue by... doing something else for 7 days. I also lost a tractor and white offroad truck as well. If you were kicked, you should have let us known. Our ventrilo and e-mail address is clearly posted at every login. Server resets every 6 hours, you are the only one who knows where your vehicle blew up.

Yeah I got to Zeleno for the nicely accessible supermarket. The first time I went there I remember reading the wiki saying it was a vehicle hotspot in that car park. Yet every time I go there I'm optimistic about finding one, and never do.

This is truth as far as I'm concerned. Never seen a vehicle anywhere near Zeleno and I think it is supposed to have three vehicle spawn points if I'm not mistaken.

Meh, "meta-gaming" for the loss.

Not enough time to counter the neck-beards.... stupid real life.

I have rode in or drove almost all the vehicles in DayZ and hands down the best is the pedal bike.... nothing like touring around a PvP hotspot ringing that gay little bell and pissing people off... massive fun.

:D

ok let's see... everyone in chernarus is poor as fuck huh? have you guys played the Red Harvest arma 2 campaing? it takes place in the very chernarus, and besides 2 or 3 military vehicles you just happen to have because the army of the US is stationed there, EVERY SINGLE TOWN YOU GO there is a pickup truck and a civilian car operational, every.single.where, they're very common, and each can be accessed and driven for no reason, they also come in different assorted colors.

once standalone comes and everyone will be forced to share a server with 200 to 300 people, I expect cars to be just as common as in the arma 2 campaign.

of course, they would require maintenance, no car survives so long in a zombie apocalypse, but it's not to mean that zombie attacks make them explode and therefore completely useless.

Lol, a few lives ago, I was a bandit. So, there I was, camping on the hill at Elektro. I end up seeing, in the space of 4 minutes, two survivors running around on bycicles. Then, I see some guy run up to the roof of the firestation, camping there with some sniper. Another guy gets him, and starts camping there as well. Then, another guy goes to the other firestation, close to the hill, and gets shot by the sniper. Then, another guy shoots the guy on the roof of the firestation with an enfield, takes the sniper rifle, then goes to the lower roof of the firestation. Then him and another ghillie suited gent with a lee enfield have a mexican standoff with one of them inside the firestation tower, and the other on the roof.

Amazing what you can see through a sniper scope.
