horrgakx 11 Posted August 1, 2012 Say I've got a primary and secondary weapon along with a full inventory and full backpack - what is the best way to switch to the Hatchet or the Flashlight (cos I know they're treated slightly differently) without loosing stuff? pietjan12 (DayZ) 5 Posted August 1, 2012 hatchet/flashlight take up your primary/secondary.. if your inventory/backpack is full.. there is no way you can keep both of the items.. i suggest you keep the guns and look for nv goggles/chemlight/flares
TheGantoo 25 Posted August 1, 2012 If you got a primary weapon equipped and want to use your hatchet:(You need 10 backpack slots to do this!)Click G. (open inventory.)Click "Open bag". (The button should now show "Close bag".)Click the primary weapon.Click the left arrow. (top left corner.)Your primary weapon should now dissapear from the primary weapon slot. (there should now be a "1" on the left of the weapon you moved.)Right click your hatchet, click "Remove from toolbelt."If this didnt work, or something dissapeared, you've done something wrong*. :)*If you did make a mistake, the weapon might have spawned below you or somewhere around you, possible at the last loot spot you've been at. (Not confirmed by anyone that i know of but thats just what i saw last time i did it. :)I hope this helped you and anyone else who's confused with the inventory. ^_^-Gant. horrgakx 11 Posted August 1, 2012 Thanks. I think the issue is a full inventory of the basics (food & water). I still need to find a bigger bag.
TheGantoo 25 Posted August 1, 2012 When you find a new bag, drop your old one on the floor, then equip the new one, open the old and move your stuff over to the new bag. :)
thisisbleep 32 Posted August 2, 2012 When you find a new bag, drop your old one on the floor, then equip the new one, open the old and move your stuff over to the new bag. :)Don't do this, you risk your original bag falling through the floor and not being able to get to it. In buildings and on slopes dropped items can fall the floor.1. Remove all loot from the pile with the bag, including tin cans etc. (they stop you accessing the "take" and "open" bag options)2. Use the scroll wheel to choose "open" bag3. Open your existing backpack and move everything into the new bag4. Close the inventory window5. Use the scroll wheel to choose "take" bag6. Now you have a new bag with all of your items already in it.Regarding the items:10 slots for primary and 5 slots for secondary AND as many slots required for the ammunition used by that weapon, it will move the ammunition a split second afterwards into the bag just like when dropping a weapon on the floor. If you don't have enough space you will lose the weapon and if the weapon is successfully moved you could lose some or all of the ammunition. Please try to avoid giving advice to new people unless you know what you are doing is the safest/most correct way, otherwise we will just keep having people experience problems and it will be an endless cycle.
