Too many lone players?

Recommended Posts

From the current survey, 25% of respondents are lone players. One of the factors I'd consider to be crucial in the experiment's success is to see how many of those players Rocket can get to team-up.

Why try to decrease that? 25% sounds perfectly reasonable to me. That's a significant minority, but a minority nonetheless. I don't think anything could get me to stop playing (mostly) solo. And anything that did would probably lead to me quitting.

I have Asperger's and being social takes a lot of effort and distracts me, significantly lowering my performance.

Not everyone has friends who play this, and I for one cannot guarantee I can meet up and a certain time and place. So It's Solo!!

When the group is failing the strongest individual survive. You can keep your group for yourself...

I wouldn't want to team up with a stranger, 99% sure they'd kill you if you flash a gun in-front of them.

This game is not one any of my friends I play FPS with would enjoy so I roll solo, I find it easier to loot towns more stealthy but I know I have been killed numerous time where with a group I wouldn't have. While I would love a group to roll with I don't trust anyone in this game at this moment.

As many times as I've been shot in the back or KOS, it's driven me to become solo because I don't have any RL friends who play.

More player interaction should be happening. And not just one on one interaction. Groups should have to interact from time to time.

Right now food, water, medical supplies, weapons, and ammunition are all plentiful enough to keep dozens of players stocked for days. Injuries and maladies can all be cured by anyone nearly instantaneously. Anyone can become self-sufficient. Large groups of Zed can be taken out by a lone player, or simply avoided.

These four things are the largest barrier to player interaction, aside from the obvious PK issue. If resources were more scarce, injuries were more serious, players were more specialized and less "jack-of-all-trades", and Zed were more threatening, you'd see larger and larger groups forming with the common goal of simple survival -- rather than the goal of killing other players. Once survival was assured, most of the server would likely be under the same banner. Player killing would likely be frowned upon, because that player has likely helped a lot of other players on that server at one point or another, even if only briefly. If larger group content were added (like the ability to construct, furnish, power, and supply larger encampments) you'd see actual cooperation.

Of course that is only a theory. But you can't prove of disprove a theory without experimentation -- and I see a distinct lack of experimentation going on with this mod lately. Isn't this an alpha? Isn't this the time to be attempting radical changes and seeing how they pan out?

None of my friends have Arma 2 (yet) and if you think I'm teaming up with a random who'd shoot me in the back, then you're mad.

I've found two players within the space of an hour who were happy to team up. The server was laggy, though, and alas we all got parted when we all seemed to just run into walls. We were all in Cherno, too, so I went about looking for them and came across a different player with a hatchet who killed me.

If those two people see this post, thank you. <3

In the whole time trying out this mod I have never ever even once seen a duo or team. Every time it has been a loner. That's not to say those times I was sniped i wasnt hit by a group surveying me. But in terms of what I see: I only ever see loners.

I have found none that are worthy of my awe inspiring talents.

My glistening muscles under the moonlight shall only be viewed by myself.. and the glazed empty stares of those I have slain.

My rock hard abs will bounce the rain gently to the floor as the lightning strikes behind me.

My beautifull mane flowing wildly through the air like a tornado ready to rain destruction down upon chernarus.

So no thank you.

I am not interested in carrying you or any others like you through DayZ.

I find the tension is greater alone. And right now its how I prefer to play.

Although I am for a way to minimize the shoot on site to encourage more grouping while you are on your journey in the game. But I am in no favor of getting rid of the PVP element either because bandits is also what makes this game great too.

I like being alone but there is a problem. If i get wounded and lose a lot of blood i can not administer blood bag to myself :(

What should i do, look for hours in an open field for a cow to pop up... or eat a shitload of :beans:

I would love to group with other survivors, but everytime I tried to communicate with other players I was killed.

After roundabout 25 attempts to group with others I got shot everytime. I tried to chat, I tried to communicate with VoIP and everytime the same reaction: extremely hostile.

Even when I rescued a guy from a horde of Zeds, his gratitude was 7.62 mm long :P

Now I am playing alone and try to avoid any contact with other players. I don't like to kill everyone I see. So I mainly stay covered. It is just healthier. Everytime I try to make contact I have to start again and all equipment is gone. So, yes I am playing alone until I have some RL friends in the game.

I don't have a mic and none of my friends has a computer that could run DayZ. This is the exact reason I'm playing alone. But with good tactics, you can survive for a long time alone.
