DayZ playstyle doesn't reflect my personality - thank goodness

Recommended Posts

If I behaved in DayZ the way I behave in real life, it wouldn't be much fun. I'd probably be part of an orderly queue waiting for a deer stand spawn, or be hurriedly exitting any town occupied by gun-toting gangs of players with my tail between my legs.

So, when people complain about people acting like assholes, or people murdering for fun, or people stealing and deceiving and cruelly playing with others in DAyz, I don't understand it.

Surely, any video game is an escape? Surely, in DayZ as an example, I can be a murdering, adrenaline-soaked psycho if I feel like it? I can lie and cheat, and steal and GBH my way around the map, only answering for my crimes to the odd 7.62mm round to the face.

We don't all have to be nice when we play online; we are nice all day long at work and at home. We are nice to people on the telephone. I, for one, am not playing DayZ as some life simulator, Im treating it as an opportunity to wreak havoc on players that have just one life and will be gutted when they lose it. Because of this, they will fight for it with the hope of victory. That is where the excitement lies.

And really, I am a terribly nice guy :)

Very honest of you mate. Im also a bandit but not a murderer. I dont kill unarmed guys, i use them as bait to lure the bigger fish in. The real action to be had is at stary and the NWA. grab yourself a squad and get on it :)

Have some beans for your honesty.

I try to emulate my personality into Day Z as much as possible, IE I will put my life at risk to help others. I'll die and die over and over again till I find that one guy who truly appreciates it

Hello all

Funnily enough, when away from the PC I'm an egotistic psycopathic schitziod serial killer who kills for laughs and groceries mainly at the sea side.

Exactly.

Most of us would just shit ourselves and die right away in a real zombie apocalypse anyways.

A fantasy. That is extremely obvious.

The greatest thing is that you can change your ingame "personality" whenever you want. There is really no point in the game, even when fully geared, that you stand to lose a lot. Basic supplies can be found within 30 minutes of spawning as long as you can find Cherno or Elektro.

So you could start out as an ax-wielding maniac and then change to a guardian angel in your next life and not really feel like you have to play serious gritty survivor all the time.

I immitae my RL personality perfectly in DayZ. Hide from other players, sit in the dark forests and eat food/drink soda all day, go into town quickly and run away from imaginary bandits in the middle of the night, fear interaction with other players, even if non assholes/bandits, rinse-repeat. Change the dark forest toa slightly better lit computer room, and day time to night time, and there ya go.

Be right back, I have to shoot myself after reading what I just typed.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: the extension of our personal morality does not cease to exist in a virtual medium. Attempting to extrapolate cruel or otherwise unfriendly actions by placing blame upon a character, escapism or boredom, claiming that you would certainly never say or do some of the things which you are capable of in an anonymous environment, particularly not amongst the physical world, is avoiding the issue for comforts sake.

Yeah, I shot someone and felt kinda bad about it until I in turn got shot by someone else. I guess Karma put me back to square one, feels kinda good.
