What exactly is a clan?

Recommended Posts

No, I'm not looking for one or recruiting for one and so I thought this was the better forum for it.

A group of friends and I have been playing together for about two weeks now. They've been talking about wanting to make a "clan."

I played Counter Strike back in 1.6 days and remember "clans" were essentially (outside of competitive play) just a bunch of people who put the same letters in their names. Is that all it is here?

How exactly are clans working in DayZ? Why do people make them?

Our clan, we play together whenever we play. Have specific roles and ranks. Learn how each other plays repair up vehicles etc. It's just a organised group of friends.

yep, just organized. lots of them like to set up mission structures for the group. Break into small teams to achieve goals.

Edit: sorry DooM4MR, might want to remove your beans from me, I changed my post :)

If you don't mind my asking, what sorts of roles and ranks do you have set up? Do you have promotions? If so, how does one earn them?

Sorry if I'm being nosy, it's just a sort of strange concept to me.

A "clan" is an evil brotherhood of people longing for other people's misery, pain and suffering! They are something like Jehovah witness, only inside a game. They will come and get you when you least expect it, and they will make your life miserable for the amount of time you are around them! :) Fun-fun!

Edit: Don't buy their "friends" scheme! They're a cult! They are evil!

You should check out http://dayzgrt.enjin.com/ Its the clan I joined. Almost 300 ppl around the world, they have a server in US, and I believe other locations as well.

Edit: structure is like a military ladder. Ranks and leaders and all that.

It's a group of people who follow rules and play together.

My groups rules are:

Be polite. Bury your kills and give a 21 gun salute.

Be efficient. Don't kill any players who do not have military grade hardware.

And have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

We also have a few clan rules.

If you get killed your killer gets your loot. No exceptions they deserve it.

Don't attack fresh spawns. Ever. You will be killed and kicked.

And never attack a clan member. You will be crawling back to the camp for any friendly fire.

I think organisation is the key difference.

Indeed as stated above that's about what it is. If it may happen to be a bigger clan they may have their own forums and such as well. I myself have been in the same Guild/Clan quite a few years now "DarkChivalry". I actually haven't talked to the guys in a while to see if they're playing DayZ or not. If they are though I'll start playing with them or if I found enough like minded people and I really get into DayZ I might start up a branch of DC here after I talk to my Guildmaster.

If anyone is looking for a great bunch of gamers that get into just about every major MMO or Multiplayer game, check my friends out. I found them randomly on the internet years back and they've been a great group of friends and fellow gamers ever since. We also have members from all over the world and do not discriminate. If anyone is interested our site is www.DarkChivalry.com .

Well, the most are probably telling the right thing.

It's just a group of friends (my team are 7 guys + me) which play together, raid together and.. die together. (:

Don't know about other clans. The clan Im in used to play BF3 before moving over to DayZ. In game now we travel together and help each other out in the sense if someone gets hurt, there is usually a member nearby to help out with a blood bag. Travel in two groups of about 4/5. One with a sniper rifle / lee en and the others with automatic weapons.

Attempt to use Team work - eg... moving in on a barn, We will keep two people on the outskirts of the forest on overwatch while the others move in.

Also... clans tend to use something like teamspeak - so chances are they can communicate alot better than people just using the in game dayZ chat.
