Future?

Hi Guys,

Not to bring up panic here, but does anyone know whats going to happen if Arma 3 is out? If the mod is "tranfered" to Arma 3 or even a standalone game? Will there still be Arma 2 DayZ Server with the official HIVE or are we all doing this for nothing now? o:

Just a tought in my mind.

DayZ would probably continue to be supported as an ArmA2 mod, however it will most likely be on a separate hive than the one that's going to be on ArmA 3 / Standalone.

I'm fairly sure they plan on branching off and starting a standalone engine for DayZ.

Eventually the game is going standalone.

When that happens you'll probably have to start over.

When you play a mod that's being developed or a game, you have to be prepared for an update that makes you reset your progress.

It will be added as mod on Arma 3, unless Rocket will get a seaparate engine for his idea, or right to use Arma 3 engine. However he got to hurry, since WarZ is the first fake comming, but there will be more soon, and he might lose the lead..

But the advantage that Rocket actually got over all those developers who thirst for money is that despite of the work he does, he finds time to read the forums, and count opinion of DayZ community (at least as it seemed so far)

I dont think we are doing this for nothing. Lets think of it as we are in the progress of developing a stand alone game for DayZ. It will not be in vein to be playing this, even though our stuff might not follow us. We are making it possible to hopefully get a really great game afterwards, in the event of a stand-alone.

WarZ was delevoped before DayZ, I heard. Also it's DayZ's own fault not being a stand alone right now, also they will differ a bit, i suppose

The files are still public so everyone can host dayz under arma2 not connected to the hive, so its look like that the last version of arma2 dayz still also have a public server with own db ..

I looked at your avatar and I imagined a game far scarier than Dayz. A game with guido's and giant snookie monsters reigning terror across the lands.

Yea, but with another DB (seperate) you have to start all over again. So - my point in being afraid of "lose all my progress" is still here.. :s

Do you actually play this game, or just pretend like you do to fit in on the forums.

You're going to lose your stuff A LOT to things way dumber than a server migration.

Seriously? I'm playing with a team of 8 mates, lookup the other thread i posted in "bandits & a**holes".

Im alive for 53 days ingame now and I'm playing every day if I like to.

And that was just a question, I'm getting the best gear now and just wonder if the work is worth it or not?

I understand now, why anyone is shoot on sight - u don't have to be careful anymore if u know that u can't keep ur stuff? :D

Because there is still time until ArmA 3 and the new DayZ come out.

Would you prefer to keep all your precious gear with you until then, or just make a suicide run into Cherno and then sit in the corner waiting for ArmA 3 to come out ? ;)

You could literally be killed at any second and lose everything.

I don't care how careful you are.

You could log in right in front of someone and get shot, or someone server hops behind you and kills you, or you glitch out and die, or a sniper tags you.

And if you're "too safe" for any of that to happen a hacker can teleport you and kill you.

You're not safe and to think that losing your items to a 1 time server transfer makes everything you've done "not worth it" then stop playing. Seriously.
