UnitedStatesOfAmerica 19 Posted July 31, 2012 Time to start off my first post here with a suggestion as i originally came here to help improve the game play aspects of Day Z. As far as i am concerned there is no way to tell if someone is a bandit or not and quite a few players seem to like the "unpredictability" of this feat, but i would rather have something else to identify a bandit. This is going to be questionable at best and i wouldn't know if is even able to be implemented due to the Arma II engine. My thought is once your humanity is lowered to a point, your character now has this invisible trigger that follows you around and lets make it have a radius of 20m. Once a survivor hits that trigger a soundtrack would play and the survivor knows there is a bandit nearby but not know where or what direction the bandit is due to this trigger being a circle. This would add a new level of eerie to Day Z. Let me set the scene. You just wandered into Cherno and need supplies desperately. As you walk cautiously down the street you notice things are way to quiet for a city this big. You haven't seen a zed yet. You enter the store and look around to make sure no ones been here before. You see the back entrances are barb-wired but think nothing of it. You manage to grab a M1911 with a mag before you hear a sound that is all to familiar in Cherno. There must be a bandit in the store. The only way out is through the front. (I was never very good at stories) The music in Day Z is awful lets just admit it now. All it is, is just some weirdo hitting a hammer against some piece of metal he found outside and made a soundtrack out of it. Here is who should do the music and the music for the trigger system of the bandits. http://dayzmod.com/f...music-for-dayz/ So, what are your opinions and critiques?
xXxCrackSmokerxXx 4 Posted July 31, 2012 The 20 m trigger radius is an absolute no. Itd be just like radar.
UnitedStatesOfAmerica 19 Posted July 31, 2012 Its definately open to interpretation i would gladly take down to 5 to 10m
Shrayer 0 Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) I think the bandit skins were quite a good solution.I don't like this "radar", people can just disconnect when the music starts to play without beeing in danger. Edited July 31, 2012 by Shrayer
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit 40 Posted July 31, 2012 i actually like the idea of suspense created with this trigger though if a bandit is within 20m of range it´s propably too late anyway. I think it´s a better idea than the heartbeat-version if the music only starts to play with bandits with really low humanity, not with everyone who ever killed a player. it would implement a sense of danger ahead, something very difficult to manage in a virtual world (where other games use alarm signs on your screen to scream in your face that you were spotted)

Marten (DayZ) 2 Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) Like the idea of different music in the game, could ad some more atmosphere. But using it as a weak bandit skin system.Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!Just another unrealistic punishment system .You just don't mutate a mp3 player (that alerts everyone) on your body because u kill people.See the "living hell" thread if u want a good way to encourage teamwork. soapmak3r 677 Posted July 31, 2012 I already suggested this here and went as far as compose 'paranoia' themed music for it... ;)
Riordin 15 Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) Not a bad idea, however in a lot of cases it would not work.1. Bandits like to snipe people in Cherno from the hills so too far for a trigger. If you were to add a separate trigger to this say for instance a sound or music would play when you're in someone's croshairs it would give you an un fair advantage knowing some one is trying to kill you.2. See above, knowing that some is around that will kill you is an unfair advantage. (Likely why they removed bandit skins)3. If a bandit dies, his/her humanity would be reset when they respawn, at this point they could walk right up to, "oh no music, this guy is legit, whats up buddy?" then you have to explain to all of your friends how you got hatcheted to death.4. if your being attacked by a group and just so happen to murder them all your humanity would drop and everyone would think you were a bandit and avoid you. "WHY DOES NO ONE LOVE ME?"These are just my thoughts.I think there should be ways to figuring out if someone is a bandit but it should be subtle.Like blood on there clothes or something hats not really noticeable until you take a really close hard look.but even with that #4 still takes into consideration.
