Screen tearings - hack?

Recommended Posts

The other day I was logged onto a server (not sure which, but a UK server) and I went on a little trip to Green Hill. As soon as I neared the buildings I started to get screen tearing, but only when I was looking at the buildings. If I turned around and looked back down the slope/into the woods again everything looks fine. I could just about manage to crawl about the buildings and check for loot and then just shrugged it off.

Last night I logged onto another server (US one this time) and went on a jolly to the NW airfield. No problems outside the airfield but as soon as i entered the perimeter and was looking to towards the barraks I experienced the same screen tearing. Again, if I turned around/looked away, it corrected itself.

These are the only two areas on the map I've been to that I've had this problem. I'll be trying the NW airfield again tonight on a different server to see if I have any more luck but was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this before.

Reason topic says "hack?" is I was also wondering if it is a possible hack as I believe that these two places have kewl lootz and those naughty little hackers want it all to themselves and making the area(s) impossible to navigate to other players.

Or maybe I've just been unlucky.

Just a texture bug

Go into ESC<Options<Video options<Advanced Video Options<Turn Video Memory to Default

Fixed it for me.

Or, Hit M to bring up map<ALT+TAB out of game< ALT+TAB back in<Exit map

I heard this also works ^

if it's since the new update it's getting fixed with a hotfix tomorrow. It's caused by wire fencing and military corpses at the moment.

No hacks at all, just some bugs in the ArmA2 engine, I guess - this happened to me and friends several times ago, on different servers... Seems like that appears more recently after the latest patches =/ Try changing resolution and level of 3D details from high to low and back, fixed it for me sometimes, but I had to change server more than I got it back working

The geometric artifacts you are talking about are not screen tearing..

Screen tearing is the effect of the top half of the frame being a few pixels to left or right of the bottom half... this is caused by the gfx card displaying more frames per second than your monitor can keep up with.. if that is the case, then you can switch frame sync on.. it will reduce (cap at your hrz rating for the monitor) your fps, but it will eliminate tearing.. if you are using a monitor that has a 60hrz refresh rate, you will get tearing at any fps over 60 (because the monitor cannot display more than 60fps anyway)*.. so check your monitor refresh rate, and if it's lower that your reported fps, then turn the frame synch on..

Now, if it's artifacts (big ass triangles and shit flying about), then there were a few texture bugs introduced in that last patch.. if you get those.. then do this -

hold left shit, press - on the numeric keypad TWICE in quick succession, release the shift key and type 'flush' quickly.. if you get it right, the screen will go black, you'll see white text, for a split second, that it is flushing the gfx cache, then you'll be back in a normal view and the artifacts will be gone..

should be reduced / gone by the next patch, according to god..

/edit * DO NOT FORCE YOUR MONITOR TO GO ABOVE ITS RATED HRZ.. if your monitor is rated as 60hrz.. then it can't display more than 60 fps, without tearing.. if you don't want the tearing DON'T force the monitor above that (it is possible if you dick about with the device manager settings enough).. you will fuck it up, just put frame synch on, and if you have any extra gpu/cpu performace left, then bump up some of the detail settings.

whats wrong with green mountain?

We don't go to Green Mountain.. neither should you.. understand boy? *spit*
