Ghost Towns Come With Ghost Loot?

Recommended Posts

So i find this very often where i go travel very far and go through a couple towns that have grocery stores, apartment buildings, and other buildings but i go in and nothing is there? its not just one town either, i ran across the map and all the small towns had absolutely nothing in them. I highly doubt somebody took everything out of all the buildings in a town (especially on a server with 8 other people) and i know its not the server because its happened on multiple servers, it seems the only places where things truely spawn are on the outskirts of the map, mainly elektro and cherno. any explanations?

That may be the reason why only 9 payers were online. Loot spawn bug.

Has happened to me plenty.

Not even a tin can on the floor.

Server hop..wah.. pish..

I'm not playing on a server where there's nothing to find either.

same, only loot I found in the whole of berezino was bags. 4 different bags in various places, one deer stand, one supermarket and two in red apartment buildings, all other loot spots are empty, not even cans.

same exact thing, it seems pointless to have the areas if all the loot is focused in the 2 main cities

also, not to mention that a lot of the towns didnt even have a single zombie in them either? i could sprint through the town freely but it was pointless considering there was no loot to grab

Iv never had problems with loot in any town. The exception being if you server hop. Then your not gonna see the loot in that area for a while which is what i presume you have done.

I think it has something with the loot spawn mechanics.

I believe I read somewhere that if loot is old, it despawns and there is a period of time before fresh loot will spawn.

So say someone was there 30 mins before you got there, being the next person there, the loot despawns and then it won't respawn for a period of time.

Look through the Rocket said sticky and find the loot spawn thread.

When your character is near a building, your game (I shall refer to as client) checks the building to see when loot was last spawned. If it was spawned, and is old, it will delete that equipment (cleanup) and then let the building sit empty for a while. If you or another client comes along after that time has passed, it will then generate loot.

What you are suggesting, means that every time it goes to place loot - it would have to check what equipment is on every other player on the server. Considering your client is performing loot spawns many times per second, this would cause a massive impact on framerate.

Again, this is another mistake people often make. While you are now talking mechanics rather than ideas - you are talking about mechanics in isolation of the system they work in. Game designers, much like the players, have set resources too. The resource is the frame - each frame you have a finite processing capacity. Most of this is taken up with core stuff such as rendering and simulation. I have a measly 20/30% of the frame for my scripts and mechanics.

Turning up the timer is a question of balancing. Currently it takes around 20 minutes before loot will respawn. I say "around" because game time is not a fixed concept in ArmA2. I have not invested more work in this, because I'm considering peoples request to separate the world from gametime (loosely associated with realtime).

i havent been server hopping, i ran across the map in one sitting, stopping at about 7 small towns only to find absolutely nothing, unless other people are server hopping?

I was in Cherno couple of nights ago, not one zombie or player to be seen. Plenty of loot though and a dead cow on the outskirts with 8 steaks on it. Nice! Kinda felt like I'd slipped into some parallel dimension or something.

mr ratnix is right, very right. if there is no one in a place or region there is no sense in spawning stuff there, is it ? even more when you think of the thing that the server must store, calculate, rotate and distribute them. thats also the reason why there seem to be no zeds in a place but when you stay there suddenly they seem to crawl out of every corner of the place....in this way the server can save all its valuable resources for the slaughterfields of cherno and elektro, where the real fun is going on. ever realized that there is no loot when you log in in a place where 20 loot spots should be ?well, the magic of spawn mechanics and ressource distribution....its a wonder of nature . and a way to get the damned spawn campers out. i like it :)

may you travel safe and light !

I've "broken" the loot before by spawning close or into a building. The loot next to it also broke and the loot was missing.

Don't server hop, and spawn in the woods.. Enter the city that way.

Edit- just read you travelled to cities... That I have no answer for.

Happens to me a lot.

I don't know what you are supposed to do at that point except switch servers, especially when you know its not that a player looted the area its just that there WAS no loot there (not even an empty tin can for your time).

Wait 5-10 mins, 30 or so metres away. If nothing switch servers.

Not too fond of the loot system when I find myself waiting for loot to spawn.
