my first few hours in / suggestions

1 - lots of empty cans - only good loot is in the big city.. where you will promptly get shot in the face. then respawn, only to find more empty cans working your way to a big city... to get shot in the face again.

2 - zombies are on speed! first game or anything i can think of that has zombies sprinting/ dodging/ weaving.. whats next somersaults? how about give them guns and auto aim! Slow those bitches down.. give them more of a head bob and then only a head shot kills them.

C - nighttime = useless. players leave the server. its not playable. Sure realistic, but that doesn't always make for fun playing.

4. zombies are too aware. i crawl and crawl and crawl. not making sound or being seen and then some zed runs at me.. Do a stink that bad?

* - the wilderness is 100% empty and useless. I saw a bunny once, but since I could only find empty cans I didnt have a hunting knife.

6 - fun scary game. With some tweaks it will be awesome.

There is loot throughout the map, not just in the two large cities.

You'll learn how to work around Zeds with practice.

Night is a discussion beaten to death. There are inverted-timescale servers, find them and remember them.

Where there are empty cans, there is usually loot. Often, its already been taken by somebody else. It'll re spawn shortly.

Sneak, sneak, sneak, low crawl, low crawl.

But more seriously.

1. There is a lot of good loot outside of the cities. I rarely go to the big cities actually.

2. L4D have sprinting zombies. As do Dead Island. So that's two. But yes, zombies could use some work. Luckily this is Alpha.

4. Yes you do. Again, it's Alpha.

5(*?). It's not. See answer to Q1.

6. Can't disagree with that, even though I already think it's awesome.

Right... ill try to answer this as friendly as i can...

1: youre doing it wrong... you DONT go to the large cities to get stuff at first. You find barns and small villages that you can crawl into and get better equipment before even thinking of moving into towns (also, deerstands are your friends)

2: right, first game or anything that you have seen fast zombies? How about the new versions of the zombie movies... they all run there. And how about Left 4 Dead, arguably the most well known zombie game out there right now, they all run there too.

Besides, we need running zombies because the game would have to render hundreds if not thousands of zombies for it to be dangerous for you if they were walking.

C: Nighttime is awesome, i use it to sneak into military bases and major towns that you normally get killed by other players in (you complained about that yourself earlier).

Just crank up your gamma and brightness and throw a flare or two somewhere far away from you, and you can snak around easily enough.

4: I have only gotten spotted by a zed once whilst crawling, and i was basically crawling on a road, in the open, 2 meters from him.

Usually they dont spot you easily if you crawl. They DO use a very simplified spotting mechanic tho, so they DO see through walls and 360 degrees, but that is done to keep the game running smooth.

* so the wilderness is actually only useless if you dont have a hunting knife, or a tent or matches to make a fireplace or if you just want to stay hidden for a while. Right, i get ya, its useless for you since you dont do any of those things.

6: Yes, very fun, hardly scary (except at night) game that will be awesome as long as zombies dont get slower or less aware, nighttime doesnt get nerfed and loot doesnt get dumped in droves everywhere.

I have the same complaint about the zombies speed/running. I would love them to run..but they are RIDICULOUSLY fast. In a very unnatural way...I don't mean in the good 'horror' unnatural way..I mean they look ridiculous..kind of like a .."wow this game is so great"..then you see a zombie run and you're just like -_-..uhhhhhh..k? Personally I think the whole zombie running thing is a lack of polish (it IS alpha afterall) ..the zombies need more focus in their animation..

Another thing I agree with is that zombies are far too aware. Over the board ridiculous. I have crawled, flanked and taken an hour trying to get into a small town to look for supplies...if one zombie spots me essentially all my plan went to hell..it's pretty well; "Well that was a good game"..I'd be lucky to hold off the rest of the hoard that somehow know exactly where I am even though they are on the other side of the town..suddenly you've got a couple dozen zombies streaming at you from all directions and I've got nothing but a pistol and 2 mags..essentially.."I know I'm fucked, I'll have to restart"...I could abort the server..but that's an unneccasary hassle..

Here's the thing...sure..you try to make the game 'realistic'..but the fact that the engine itself can only do so much ..you still have to cater to players..because making the game more difficult does not make it more realistic.....there is a fine line between what is fun/over the top just because it's got more controls and has a steeper learning curve doesn't make it more realistic. IF it were realistic in the sense that the technology allowed it to be nearly indistinguishable from real life then you could push the envelope of what it means to survive..but when it comes to a game...you can't just expect something to be more realistic because it's learning curve is so extreme..

You have to cater to the players, otherwise..despite the popularity of this mod right now....I can guarantee you'll lose a large audience if issues like this are not addressed.

^Agreed that running animation could use some work, pathfinding aswell if it is possible. But the speed of Zs is perfect for balance reasons. If Zs are nerfed in any way it would be wayy to easy too survive, a simple easy-to-find winchester can already kills loads of them.

We can't compensate speed with Z numbers either, as that would introduce lag and make the beautiful stealth redundant. Sneaking through a horde in this game to get some loot is tense as hell! Thats the beauty of their speed; when you are spotted you know this could go wrong very fast. Zs are there to be feared.

And Zs are not very aware at all, I don't know why you keep getting spotted. Their vision is really bad, even in broad daylight you can stand almost right next to them as long as you don't make a loud noise. Creeping/crawling enables you to zigzag through a horde no problem, even when dead close to several of them. Just stay a little farther away from those hopper Zs as they seem to be better at spotting you.

Spawning of Zs could use some work though. Their numbers are fine in general, but a bit more randomness in numbers from town to town (and time to time) would be great. As it is right now you are almost never suprised at how few/many Zs a city holds. Also, spawning Zs in front of/around players need to stop.

I won't comment on the zed speed. (horse mutilated beyond easy recognition)

Recently zed aggro radius for sound was increased so pay attention to that ear on the right. Zeds have always had crappy eyesight and if you are prone you can just about trip a zed before they notice you.

2. They are fine and you can slow them down a variety of ways.

3. I don't know why 3 is C. Also Nightime is great. Again just because you haven't learned how to surrive and thrive at night doesn't mean it's broke. Also the fear of the night play encourages better preperation during the day play - kinda like real survival - you have to perpare for the night.

4. If anything they aren't aware enough when you are belly crawling. I had a cough from infection and chemlight and crawled through 2 towns undetected by all the Zeds around me (some no more than 4 or 5 feet from me).

*. I'm not sure why 5 is a *. The wilderness is awesome. There is a reason you are getting steam rolled in the cities and it's because you haven't done work in the woods / small towns / farms.

6. Agreed. I just hope the tweaks don't come from your suggestions listed above as those really aren't the things that need fixing (I can agree some animations etc. need work).

1. try to avoid the cities at first. Look for small towns and find open houses, they most likely contain stuff you can use. Keep an eye out for dead surivor bodies and loot their backpacks for stuff. Barns contain weapons and ammo of different types.

2. zombies are fast, but if you keep running they will not be able to catch you. Try to get inside a house or hangar, zombies start walking once inside. One shot kill when hit in the head. easy.

3. nighttime is useful if you remember my reply to 1 and 2. Also, there's graphical tweaks that make night time doable (turns it into some sort of black and white movie). It's useful to get through the more populated areas like cities without the fear of getting shot. Use it to your advantage but be careful.

4. never had problems with zombies being too aware. Keep an eye on your indicators for sound and visuability to the top right of your screen. when prone and crawling you will make no sound and are invisible to zombies. You can crouch walk by hitting ctrl and then shift + forward. Be aware that the ground you walk on makes different amounts of noise; best is grass (often completely silent). Keep in mind that firing a weapon will attract zombies (often in great numbers), so be mindful of when you shoot.

5. the wilderness is necessary to make this game what it is. use forests to travel across the map relatively unseen.

6. it's definately not ready yet. But already hell of a lot of fun. Welcome to DayZ, it's going to take some getting used to - be patient, it'll keep you alive..
