Better ways to lose aggro

Recommended Posts

From my current experience, there are 3 methods of losing aggro:

  1. Run inside a building
  2. Run up a hill
  3. Run through bushes/trees/around buildings

Number 3 is good in theory, but numbers 1 and 2 are way too easy and unrealistic. I also feel that number 3 is harder to execute than it should be. The problem with numbers 1 and 2 is that they are too tedious and also too reliable, making the game too easy. All of these issues boil down to zombie movement speed. They are too easy when they're slow, and too difficult when they're fast. Slowing down the outdoor speed and speeding up the indoor/on a hill speed would give players more interesting and fun options for how to ditch aggro, as well as increase realism.

How does running into a building, or running up an incline sound unrealistic? I mean zombies themselves are unrealistic...so....

Losing aggro'd zombies is way to easy as it is... I can run through Cherno and make a successful looting run to the Church, Supermarket, Military Camp, and Firestation whilst escaping with 12000 blood as it is...

Because their speed wouldn't change so drastically. I guess you could argue that the specific zombies of DayZ DO act like that, but DayZ seems to be working off of the well-established concept of zombies that we see in movies and other games, and I've never seen any other zombies get as confused when they enter a building or walk up a hill as they do in DayZ.

Because they just walk for no friggin reason. Outside they're too fast. Inside building they're way too slow. They need to find a balance for this. Zombies shouldn't run that fast.

If you want to talk about realistic than muscular strength in corpses and infected people would result in slower, number movement, which means you are slower and weaker.

Man have we got a badass over here or what?

The zombies are way too fast as it is and see you miles away for someone who likes to play stealthy.

If you can do that, which I doubt you can you awesome internet badass, good for you. Doesn't mean other people can. I sure can't. I take ages to loot a town because I have to prone and crouch all the time.

zombies should not be fast and agile, i like the escape mechanism the game offers.

You can pretty easily sprint through cherno and do a good amount of looting at the key places. However if you do so you are gonna have one hell of an impressive tail of zombies moving to each building you go to making you nice and easy for that quiet guy in the cafe to kill you (or save you I suppose but no one ever saves me :( )

It seems this infection has more to do with controlling behaviours than making them rot, they're not corpses at least;

They are not dead.

It's an alpha, an early one at that :)

My brother is a Virologist, he's New Zealand's main researcher for Influenza Vaccines. He helped me develop the setting and the infection.

None of this is outlined in the current implementation, and it won't become part of this until Beta at the earliest which is at least months away.

Frankly, I don't really care what anyone else's definitions are or what movie has done what. My hope is to do something new here, and that extends to the story and the setting. Much of which you will have to find out for yourselves in the world. There is very little that will be told to you when it finally gets finished.

I am still for slightly slower infected and players having stamina so that you slow down slightly and the infected can then get hits on you.It merges well with how easy it is to lose aggor right now....sometimes you can't and you will have to turn and fight.
