What now ?

Lets say the stand alone version gets released today for XX bucks, what will that mean for this mod? after the release of the stand alone version will the mod still be supported in anyway by the devoleper as in bug fixes and why not maybe some new content ? These are the questions that bother me lately, the whole community will suffer from this division.

How do you think Rocket will handle this transition between Arma2 buyers and his own game

Looking forward to hear your opinion on these matters.

I'll happily buy it and play it.

Only time will tell really.

My question is that "Why keep developing a mod for the ARMA 2 engine when the effort can be made towards ARMA3?" - Sorry if this has been anaswered before and I missed it.

What is the announcement Rocket refers too "Something will be known in the next 3 months?"

I fully support this game and welcome the day I can throw money towards it.

How is it "division" if it's been officially announced that they're planning to move into a standalone version?

Edit; If they'll actually develop their own game, I doubt they have time to develop the outdated mod.

At least they shouldn't have time for it.

I can assure you, if there is a stand alone game released for dayz. someone, will continue to support this mod.

You really think they would turn their back on all of their players?

How many times has rocket said that we the players are sending a message to game companies?

why on earth would they abandon us after all those statements?

and why aren't you buying the standalone? you bought arma 2 not dayz BTW.

Two things.

1. At first you're basically saying "They shouldn't turn their backs on those who don't want to buy their game." and then you say "Why aren't you buying their game?" I find that kinda funny. Like you're blaming both sides.

2. They should pretty much turn their backs on the original mod, because having a standalone game in their hands, they should really, REALLY focus on their game on a new engine, rather than try to figure out the countless bugs of the engine that the current mod is on.

I think the standalone is a great idea because Rocket will have access to the source code and can hard write everything. As far as the mod I would assume it would be handed down to a subwriter. As much as I love this game its short comings are there because Rocket does not have full access to tweak things through the Arma Source so in the long run it would be a win win over all. As long as we are not pushed to the micro Pay to win model I would be happy with a pay per month depending on the size of the map and people per server. I think it needs to stay PC only and in Indy dev mode. I feel going console would dumb it down to a casual cry fest and being bought out by Actiblizz or EA would push it to conform to the same. Granted thats where the money is but would ultimatley turn from its founding roots. (see warz and its casual mode.)

1 Thing:

Your a bad troll.

Bohemia Interactive Studios and Rocket's Rag Tag Army are 2 seperate entities. Bohemia has sold 700+ copies thru steam specifically for Dayz, Thats roughly 20 million dollars, how much % does steam get, I don't know. but thats alot of dough. So as a company for Bohemia to STOP all support on this mod after rocket releases his standalone would be a bad business decision. Not to mention... if you want to play Dayzmod. you still have to buy arma II from them... still generating revenue... You will find that they will support the mod, maybe only for a year after the standalone, maybe more... who knows but Bohemia isn't stupid enough to give the middle finger to 1 million people who will probably never buy anything they have anything to do with ever again. Thats why they won't be turning their backs on us.

Why aren't you buying the game? Because I support people who deserve my money. and DAYZ the game could be the worst game in the world but i'm still buying it because thanks to rocket I've had the most fun I can remember in an online game. Focus on a new engine? there is no point right now. they are ironing out the details, the gameplay, how things work. Once you get the basic game principle down, then you can focus on implementing it under a new engine. WE DON'T EVEN HAVE PROPER AMMO SPAWN RATIOS YET.

in short.... buy DAYZ the game, support our friends, and be patient for one of the best games ever to become just that... a real game.

20 million dollars for 700 copies?

If they sell 700 ARMA 2s and 700 Operation Arrowheads, that's 21'000 € without a discount.

If they sell 700 Combined Operations, that's 17'500 € without a discount.

But I'm sure you just forgot to put a K after your numbers. Just felt like pointing that out because I'm a bad troll.

My serious post starts here.

Just so you know, Nobody ever said that Bohemia should stop supporting the mod. And here's a fun fact; Bohemia doesn't support any mods besides allowing them to be built onto the ARMA 2 engine.

Again, it's not like Bohemia Interactive, the company in charge for ARMA 2, is going to ban the mod from existence and anyone who ever plays it. What I meant in my previous post was that Rocket should stop making updates for the mod or at least SLOW DOWN or FOCUS A LOT LESS because THEY HAVE THEIR OWN GAME that CREATES THEM REVENUE and PAYS THEIR WORKERS/DEVELOPERS.

Why aren't you buying the game? Because I support people who deserve my money. and DAYZ the game could be the worst game in the world but i'm still buying it because thanks to rocket I've had the most fun I can remember in an online game. Hey.. Did it ever cross your mind that we're talking about after the game becomes standalone? They will most likely pick up an already-existing engine, so working on an engine is far from a priority. Just picking the right one. And correct ammo/item spawn ratios are not things you have to develop before the game becomes standalone. That's called a "little thing" that can be patched later on. The game won't be released as 1.0 and stay that way forever, after release.

in short.... buy DAYZ the game, support our friends, and be patient for one of the best games ever to become just that... a real game.

The better question is - Will there still be Arma 2 DayZ Server with the official HIVE or are we doing all the shit here for nothing? ;D
