how ammo and clips should be used

Recommended Posts

instead of carrying an unrealistic amount such as 20 akm mags, like i currently have on my coyote backpack, i think it would be more realistic to find separate ammo clips and ammo boxes

for example, let's say that you found 2 m1911 clip and found an ammo box with 20 m1911 ammo, then after you have used the 7x2 bullets in both your clip, you would have to manually reload the the 6 remaining ammo from your ammo box to the said clips, with a set amount of maximum clips allowed to be carried.

because realistically, NO ONE carries around 7 magazines for a sidearm. it just didn't seem realistic to me.

is it just me?

Well yea but then again its Arma2 engine.

What troubles me more is that ammo mags are refilling upon server relog, that makes game worse because all these bushwookies with .50 cal have basically unlimited ammo...

But yea, being able to fill empty mags might be cool especially if you could take M240 & M249 ammo boxes, take the bullets out of them and fill your stanags & dmr mags with it.

I like the idea in spirit.

But I think the engine is too attached to already loaded magazines.

I'd love to find boxes of ammunition, and have only 2 or 3 magazines.

Imagine having a clue boxes of bullets in your backpack in a firefight, but emptying your current magazine load and having to run away.

Priceless.

The run and gun crowd won't go for it though.

true. i just find it ridiculous that i can actually carry 20 akm mags. i don't even think that the army does that in real life.

I can carry what, 10 or so Jerry cans? What is that, 600 pounds?

That's why I snicker when people pull out the "realistic" trope in this game/mod.

I wish I could kick your face in, through the internet. Your contribution to this thread has been invaluable. I like how you give examples of why your opinion is even valid.

The fact is, mags don't come preloaded in real life. You are more likely to find boxes of bullets, than you are to find a bunch of loaded mags. It would add to the immersion, realism, and general difficulty of the game if this idea was implemented. You couldn't go guns blazing into a fire fight, because you have 20 mags in your inventory.... you might have 3 mags and 500 rounds of ammo that you have to REARM every time you deplete.

Like the other 65 threads about this same topic (I love how people never even TRY to search), I still support it.

You're a retard if you think this is a bad idea. Finding ammo boxes with 100 rounds to reload your empty magazines is a great idea, and way more realistic than finding magazines all over the place.

EDIT: An example: magazines don't come loaded from the factory. There isn't a machine that loads bullets automatically into a magazine. Almost every bullet fired from a gun all around the world was manually loaded into a magazine / clip.

I like the idea, though I guess it is not going to happen (too soon atleast?)

about "realism"

"because realistically, NO ONE carries around 7 magazines for a sidearm. it just didn't seem realistic to me."

yeah, and no-one really respawns when they die....

Realism is not an argument when talking about games!

Realism is not an argument when talking about games!

It is when the game is supposed to be realistic.

Stop trying to make undistinguished connections between games as a generalization. Real life is a "game" mate, and that's as real as it gets.

DayZ is "supposed to be" a realistic zombie survival game, so realism is a perfectly valid comparison. There are however certain limitations on realism you can have without making it so everyone could only play once (because if you die, then fuck you, etc), as you pointed out... but for the most part, even though it's a game, it's supposed to be realistic. The ARMA engine is essentially a simulator, therefore DayZ can also be assumed to be as such also.
