Bribase 251 Posted July 30, 2012 It seems like the most intuitive way to limit KOS is not by reducing the availability of weapons but by dramatically reducing the amount of ammo available for them. Chris Rock said it best: Of course, this is already applied to many of the rare weapons in the game like the AS50 and the FAL, this means that tough decisions are often made between having an excellent rifle but not having the ammo to use it. I would like to see this applied to the mid tier weapons as well. Perhaps the addition of magazines that are only partially full or not dropping ammo with the weapon spawn would be a good idea, leaving a player with the need to go searching for ammo before he can start killing.Personally, I like the idea of players having to weigh up their options more before opening fire on other players and zeds. dra6o0n 15 Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) Rather than that, I would think that if the devs have another form to present ammo collecting then it would be interesting. When you are in a zombie apocalypse, how many 'filled' magazines of ammo will lay around in a firestation anyhow? There won't be lots of 'magazines', but there can be boxes of ammo. This means you can make players load ammo into mags to 'prepare' clips/mags in the first place, or store them in it's respective ammo box (the small one sloted one)...1 Box holds up to about 30 rounds I think, if you think about the bulk and size of military grade ammo.Oh if you TRULY want limited ammo to be super scarce, don't reduce the spawn, but incorporate...Gun Powder!Take a note from Resident Evil 3 which had gun powders and ammo loaders... You load the gun powder into shells and basically craft them. Edited July 30, 2012 by dra6o0n
Bribase 251 Posted July 30, 2012 I love the idea of finding individual bullets and loading them into a limited number of magazines manually. It would be cool to have to duck under cover to get your remaining rounds into a mag, ready to be fired. It would be very fiddly though, the mechanic would need some finesse. jnsereno 9 Posted July 30, 2012 Reducing ammo availability is a MUST. Remember that movie "the Road", where Viggo as a revolver with only 2 rounds in it, facing a truck full of bandits? I want to feel like that, hopeless.

miket 92 Posted July 31, 2012 Reducing ammo count will only affect those of us that dont have all day to sit around playing video games. People who play all day will have plenty of time to collect plenty of ammo, but those of us that can only play a few hours a day will face severe limitations and probably have no chance in the world against the unemployed basement dwellers. kayakinack 57 Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) I've always liked the idea of a game that required you to load magazines instead of finding magazines full, or just boxes of ammo that magically turn into magazines. I love the game keeps track of magazine counts, soon to be fixed to perfection (hopefully). If you find a magazine from a gun I've been firing, I was in a hairy situation and that magazine is completely empty and may even be broken due to the fall from the height I'm firing my weapon or the material it fell on.Also I'm fine with the amount of ammo in this game, but I think the limiting factor should be the number of magazines you carry. An ammo box of the pistol cartridges typically come in 50 round boxes (20-25 if they are JHPs) any self-respecting survivalist will have thousands of rounds of ammo on hand, any self-respecting Marine/Soldier will have as much as they can carry, and any self-respecting police officer will have at least 3-4 magazines. Ammo IMO shouldn't be that scarce of a thing, it's the magazines that are the issue. They are what limit real world why shouldn't they limit game world? I know many survivalists with THOUSANDS of rounds of ammo, and they are not in magazines. You need enough to get you through a firefight/as much as you can effectively carry and the rest of the ammo is held in a more compact package for future use. Duckman404 37 Posted July 31, 2012 At the moment it's piss easy to find ammo for many of the low-tier and medium-tier guns in this game, and even finding enough ammo for things like the FAL, Bizon or AS-50 only requires finding a crashed heli every now and then.Once ammo tracking is properly implemented, then I think we'll see people actually needing to get more than 4 magazines, but right now all you need is 2 or 3 mags with a high capacity rifle, and maybe 6 mags for a pistol. With careful reloading, you wont be out of ammo by the time you want to disconnect, and when you log back in... magically refilled ammo!Even with the magic ammo bug fixed once and for all, it's still very easy to find enough ammunition for whatever gun you pick up; all you have to do is visit deer stands or barns once in a while.Either decrease the drop rate of ammo (quarter it, make zombies a threat again and make stealth important), or make it so that magazines have a chance to spawn with 20% to 100% ammo left in them. Then let players be able to refill one magazine from another, or from ammo boxes, and things will be just fine.
