This is NOT a zombie game...

Recommended Posts

Rocket himself has stated that these are not infact "Zombies" as we know them they are infected people, This is a fact that i do not mind, infected people i can deal with if they worked properly... what i mean by this is as anyone who has played this game for a bit of time knows once you get a gun or even a hatchet the "Zombies" become a non issue, you can run through cherno or elektro or anywhere for that matter with your only concern being other players, the Zeds are only a problem when you are a fresh spawn, and even then they are more annoying than a danger, now let me clear this up, I am NOT complaining about the game i like it for what it is but in my opinion for this game (Mod) to succeed in the long term it needs to do one of two things, either fix the AI to make them more like Zombies and turn this into a true zombie game or just fix the ai so they dont glitch around and call them infected :P, all in all tho i am pleased with the game and will continue to play and support this great team of Devs,

Happy hunting, and if you see me before I see you, Shoot me or I will shoot you XD

He is complaining that the zombies aren't mmo monsters.

I believe he wants there to be more rpg elements.

This isn't dead island.

Yeah I don't get why people keep suggesting monsters or RPG/MMO/FPS (L4D) style "Zombies" in what is a realistic survival simulator.... *FACEPALM*

I wouldn't mind seeing zombie hordes spawn in the winderness though.

It's too easy to retreat to safety.

Nothing in the OP states that he wants rpg elements or L4D style zombies.

Imo he wants to have either the archetype zombie, being slow rotting corpses that really attack viciously in big packs( just an example) or just the type of infected of lets say 28 days later.

Either way I can relate to his comments but I also believe that other things need attending first.

The definition of the AI enemy isn't really important at this time.

Besides saying that Zeds are just a hassel to deal with once you get weapons might be true, but increasing the power of Zeds from example 'zone to zone' or town to town isn't something that might be beneficial as new players have to tend to stay in the socalled more lowbie zones and are such a very easy target to high geared players(wich is allready the case).

So then you might say one has to make something of a level/gear restrain to areas, but that ruins the very core of the game, being a vast open dangerous world.

So what about Land of the Dead, which exists within the Canon of Romero Zombie Fantasy and has zombies that run, AND zombies that use guns.

Just because you and the OP have only seen 2 movies, that doesn't mean the games zombies aren't "correct".

Hold the anger and read it through again please.

As you can see everything in my post was purely hypothetical.

And besides read the whole thing through before you try to base clever opinions.

And the movies of Romero don't have running Zeds, Land of the Dead featured 1 Zed(that could fire the m16 or w/e, but he was able to grunt commands aswell) and neither does Dairy of the Dead, Survival of the Dead does have Zeds riding on horseback and shooting guns.

The running Zombies are seen in the remakes of ' Of the Dead' series being Dawn of the dead from 2004 and Day of the Dead(2008 I think)

Oh btw, I'm not angry at you at all, I'm just trying to make my point even more clear.

First off, saying Zed makes you look like a serious hipster.

Second, the idea that you presented is called "level gating",

It is a generic MMO concept that forces people to progress in a straight line. This is not an MMO. This is barely an RPG. It just has a loot system.

Know your zombies!

"Infected" - ala 28 days later. These are viral and usually still "living" people witha rabies or "rage" like infection. They usually in most fiction can be killed in the same way a normal person can be, but are also just as mobile or aware as normals.

"Romero Zombies" - ala Night of the lviing dead/Dawn of the dead/Day of the dead etc. These are DEAD bodies that re-animate. They are usually slow, have reduced sound/vision and normally need to have teh brain destroyed to drop them.

These are two of the most common and popular zombie types in fiction. It's also worth noting decent zombie fction never refer to them as "zombies" within the story...!

Teh call me a hipster :)

And I didn't presented an idea as I said before.

Read that last sentence again, then you would see I conclude my post with:

'So then you might say one has to make something of a level/gear restrain to areas, but that ruins the very core of the game, being a vast open dangerous world.'

And further more :

'Besides saying that Zeds are just a hassel to deal with once you get weapons might be true, but increasing the power of Zeds from example 'zone to zone' or town to town isn't something that might be beneficial as new players have to tend to stay in the socalled more lowbie zones and are such a very easy target to high geared players(wich is allready the case).

If I caused any doubt about the meaning of my words I'll apologize beforehand, for not stating clear enough, as I'm not here to debate but to enjoy some banter with fellow players.

If it isn't a zombiegame...why would the home page of the site be littered with the word "zombies"?

So, what fixes to AI will make them challenging? Sorry, I don't see any since in your suggestion, let's say you get their movement issues fixed, so they move in predictable straight line and do it slower how does that increase difficulty? I'd say you should make them die only to HS, and then you fix their movement. Otherwise the game will be too easy.

Now I feel like a douche.

And to the poster before you, the new Dawn of the Dead has fast zombies. Sure it isn't the original, but it has fast zombies.

That said, Rocket doesn't have to conform to any previous Zombie fiction.

He is creating fiction. He can make anything whatever he wants. Zombies aren't real.

They are a few times reffered to directly as Zombies in Dawn of the Dead(1978) by Peter?

But its true that most zombie flicks and/or books reffer to them as something else or 'ghouls'.

Allthough 'ghouls' is a term more from the stories from the '50 and '60's if I'm not mistaken.

Zombie is pretty much a blanket term for something that is no longer clinically alive and eats human flesh.

There is no canon zombie, as they are fiction, each artist prefers there own type, Romero to the slow horde, Others to the Infected Virus, Rocket happens to prefer the latter like 28 Days Later.

Taking the lines from the movie is really not an accurate way to say what the director/creator thinks, the character is stating to their knowledge what they are, and most of us if we saw a human eating people and they weren't alive, would think Zombie.

Call it a Post-Apocalyptic Sandbox Survival Horror if you want, still falls into the Zombie Genre.

OP HERE..., lets take a step back here and for anyone who did not read my entire post before commenting, and I am guessing that some of you have... not once in this post have i complained, simply stating my opinion, I do not want this game to be dumbed down at all i love the feel of the game, but I am a zombie fan... at the moment to me this game feels like ARMA 2 with some "Zombies" that do not really hurt or affect anyone other than new players or fresh spawns, lets face it for those of us who do regular NWAS or stary trips, when was the last time a Zed killed you... this is a survival simulator, and in my humble opinion in order for it to be called a Zombie game it needs either the traditional zombies or the infected model type, now I am well aware that it is in alpha and this is NOT a bitch post and I am not ranting for Rocket and the dev teams to Fix it, i support them and love the work they have done, just please lets not turn this into the World of Warcraft community forums and all bicker at eachother, lets all let others have their own opinion please.

Romero isn't the only person who ever wrote about or thought about zombies.

28 days later wasn't the first fiction to feature fast zombies.

The fact that you are so engrained with the idea that everyone thinks of only two IPs when they think of zombies proves that you are either young, or didn't learn about zombies until 2004 or whenever the DOTD remake came out.

If you don't have matches then i am guessing you are still relatively fresh to the spawn, correct me if i am wrong

I was at that point, and I agree that zombies are easy to kill.

But, another glorious work of zombie fiction is The Walking Dead. THE COMIC NOT THE DUMB TV SHOW.

In the walking dead the zombies are weak and they literally kill them with normal household hammers and hatchets in droves.

They also get owned by a guy with a tank.

Day Z is typical zombie fiction.
