The solution to Alt-F4

Recommended Posts

Lets face it, people don't Alt-F4 because they don't want to die.

They do it so that

1) They get to keep their gear

2) The little fucker who shot them doesn't get their gear

They login on another server, bandage themselves, take painkillers and eat 10 steaks and are all set again.

The little fucker that shot them hopefully aggroed a bunch of zombies and then also disconnected.

The point is that you disconnect for a reason, and the reason is not that your character will die, it's that you'll lose your gear if you don't.

The game is fucked up at this point because gear is what matters, not your "life".

Make gear less important by making aiming harder and ammo less frequent.

Until my gear ceases to be more important than my character's life I will keep disconnecting and keep relishing in the fact that my killer didn't get my precioussss gear.

When your character dies, you lose your equipment. So the reason you say is false is actually the right reason.

yes.... because making ammo harder to find is somehow going to make your gear LESS valuable

I think they should keep Alt -F4, because a situation may arise when you need to quite quickly. To make it fair for others, the Alt-F4 has a countdown from lets say 10.

10

9

8

7....

After that reaches zero it disconnects. During that time you can still die and be looted. This way, if someone needs to leave for some unknown circumstance and walk away they can. Also, This will keep people from being able to leave the game as soon as they are dying etc.

You play the game to survive, so survive within the mechanics of the game, dont be a bitch.

At the end of the day, if you never lose your gear when you die, you would have all the gear in the world in a week and then cry cause you have no other reason to play the game.

Stupid.

And its DICKS like you that ruin the game for others. I'm sorry, but in my experience the people who disconnect are the ones that ATTACK you first. Then when they fail to kill you, they D/C like the little b*tches they are.

Losing equipment because of death is not an axiom. There needs to be persistant progress in this game, otherwise people will find ways to save their temporary progress.

I don't really see the downside of your character staying on that server for 5-10 seconds after you log out. Heck I'd even go so far as to say 15-30 seconds doesn't seem unreasonable to me, but then again I only log out when I'm safe.

Edit: I also don't see how making ammo less frequent helps the rarity of items "issue" that you put forth.

+1 Pretty much the same thing I was saying.

Cool story bro. Seriously. - If people killed me a legit way (which they have before and still do when I slip up and decide to checkout the view from the top of a firestation) then fine. But when I'm sneaking through electro, get shot in the leg by some guy on a roof and return fire and they d/c.... i mean c'mon. NOT cool.

My solution to this is to try your best to hit their vitals, like if you're sniping, headshot them so they die before they realize they're being shot at.

If I didn't panic then I probably would have, but i was just running in through the southern side of electro towards the markent then i hear gunshots and my leg is broken. So i roll a few times and find the guy on the roof directly across from the market, return fire, and he d'ces. So sad =(

What? Just... what? So your solution to making gear less important is to just have it be shitty?

Ive come across this a few times. I havent been in a firefight full blown yet but thats because im solo atm. But I have come across someone who tried to killed me, failed, aggro'd zombies as I was shooting back and then just poof...gone.

I think making a few more basic rifles/shot guns in the starting area's might help with this problem. Because if within 5-15 mins you can have a rifle/shotgun, side arm, some mags, food and water then you wouldnt be too pissed. Because you still have the ability to go off and find that sweet gear again.

Maybe make it so that the instigator couldn't disconnect then?

Edit: Fuck it, just leave the body dangling for a minute after disconnecting and problem solved.

Buddha I somewhat agree with you, but if that were to happen there would be many more people camping the coastal cities than there are already. It could even come to the point where any building with loot would be guarded/blocked off

At the VERY least we should have a 5 second wait timer before the characters entity is logged out even if someone ctrl-alt-deletes and ends the process of DayZ. I don't think there is a single MMO that doesn't have this feature, the only thing tho is that hackers would have a lot more leeway when it comes to 100 feet in the air script killing everyone in server, as in it wont be possible to save yourself via logging out before you hit the ground.

find a way to ban hackers 1st, and then fix alt-f4. Right now it's silly, even if you find who was running a script, and ban him from server (yours only) he is back a second l8er with new ArmaII cd key, because you can just generate those with keygen.

To be honest, ammo would be even more important to save if it was less frequently found. Don't you think that would make people do the disconnecting even more often, seeing as it will now take a longer time to actually get the gear? Not very clever solution to be honest.

If something like this were to work, you would have to remove gear entirely -.-

this is what makes gear so important, though... thats why people F4 out, because it was hard for them to get where they are.
