Rixen 2 Posted July 25, 2012 I'm loving the game and play with a group of friends. Often they go to sleep long before I want to stop playing. We all group up and they log out and go to sleep. I'll keep playing meaning we end up separated and I often lose supplies by the time they come back.Is there a way I can have separate character while I play solo so that I don't lose the progress of our group play? Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted July 25, 2012 Nope! Unless you buy another copy of Arma.
Maximus the Great 34 Posted July 25, 2012 Try hopping on one of the Non-Hive Servers, the characters you make on those servers are specific to that server only and are in no wayconnected to the character you make on a normal server.Bit of a warning though, Non-Hive servers attract alot of hackers/scripters. M O N S T E R 599 Posted July 25, 2012 Isn't this half the fun of Day Z though? Surviving? Having no supplies makes it that much more interesting.-MONSTER
herrjon 478 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) In response to the 2nd character, no, not really. As far as your problem, assuming your using a map (in game or otherwise) you can decide on a "base" or general meetup point. When you go off solo, you just have to know how long you want to play and how long it takes to to go from place to place. General rule, when you get to a bit past 1/2 your time, start meandering back. You won't have to be right back at base, just a short jog away, so gauge as best you can. Daddy'o (DayZ) 146 Posted July 25, 2012 Here's how to have 2 characters (you'll need another copy of Operation Arrowhead). http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/32599-dual-boxing-accounts-step-by-step-guide/#entry314199
mwgarner@hotmail.com 4 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Unfortunately you can only have one character per CD key. It totally sucks in my opinion...I would love to be able to have a separate solo game going. I don't want to spawn in with my main character solo though, as I play with a group and I don't want to risk my character dying or move too far away from where we logged out..Hopefully when the standalone version of the game comes, you will be able to have multiple characters... Suzie (DayZ) 13 Posted July 25, 2012 Why does it suck?Arma / DayZ are games based on realism. Have you ever seen people in the army or whatever ask for 'second characters'?

ironman Tetsuo 181 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) If you have three characters doesn't that take away the fear of dying when you have two sleeping bodies in reserve? It know it doesn't affect me as you can only play one person at a time but are you not just diluting the experience for yourself? With my group we meet up on certain evenings, we will post in our forum a meeting spot and when I'm lone wolfing it through the week I'll keep that meeting spot in mind and make sure I log off near it ready for group play later. Suzie (DayZ) 13 Posted July 25, 2012 Naughty naughty, stealing Rocket's n his teams hard work for your own nefarious reasons.I don't think that unofficial servers qualify as "stealing hard work".Sure, you don't run the way as intended, but it comes with features that the official servers don't have, which in my case fit the needs of my community more.A big difference is that unofficial servers often have more friendly'ish play, where official servers are simply Kill-On-Sight servers due to the lack of communication. So I bought another character to be able to solo play while the other character stays with the group.Third I bought to do some meta gaming. You'll see a thread popping up about it, something completely new, today or tomorrow :)Altho you can play as many characters at the same time as you want. For instance I've double boxed 2 characters at Stary Sobor so that the other person sits on the south hills overlooking the city with an L85A2 thermal and AS50 and the other runs around the tents looting and scouting. All I need to do is alt tab in between the two. However I personally prefer staying respectful to rocket and his vision, flawed it may be at points. I believe he'll eventually break up the hive as is. He's only mainly running the hive system to gather data to better develop the mod as it is :)

Rixen 2 Posted July 25, 2012 Why does it suck?Arma / DayZ are games based on realism. Have you ever seen people in the army or whatever ask for 'second characters'?lol? I sprinted from Solnichniy to Cherno and didn't even get winded. I don't know of anyone who can run quite that far at full speed, do you?I get that everyone loves the "realism" of the game but let's face it: There are some pretty unrealistic factors that are there to make the game more playable, and having a separate character could easily be included in that.
