Are Boats Worth It?

Recommended Posts

I have found a fishing boat in a harbor and filled it up with gas. All excited that I found a vehicle, I'm planning to go pick up my friend a ways away. I start moving only to discover that this piece of crap only goes 10 mph/kph. Is it really worth it to drive it unless you need to get to an island? Do you run faster than a boat?

Look for the RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat)

It's fast as hell. I can tell you where it is in a PM if you like.

So as not to spoil the fun of finding it for others that read this thread.

Edit...sorry as mentioned its the PBX in DayZ not the RIB. Same sort of boat though.

I'd use it. Safer than walking along the coast. The fishing boat is pretty terrible though. The rubber boats are much faster and much easier to hide.

i dont think its worth it to be honest. The island is heavly trecked through, and any tents or camps there will be raided in less than 30 minutes of them being put up lol.

They are pretty nice to pick people up in, but you are going to get shot at probably. The PBX is pretty nice. It's basically a RHIB or rigid hulled inflatable boat. It's like a military speed boat.

Once you get kitted out and experienced then everything is "worth it" since you have to find things to do. If you are just starting then it's not worth your energy probably to defend and maintain it.

Coincidentally enough, I was making the long journey south on a fishing boat just a few minutes ago. Then the server gave me one those "no message received x seconds" messages, and I got DC'ed. Now I'm wondering what's going to happen when I log back in.

Probably something bad. I have the worst luck with vehicles.

The PBX is the greatest thing in the damn game, easy to hide, fast and seats four, 3 + Driver.

The fuel consumption is great as well to top it off.

The Fishing/Small boats aren't worth the fuel, my group use them as range practice though, get someone to drive it out to the new goal range, get picked up in the PBX and snipers practice their zeroing and bullet drop adjustments.

Hold shift while accelerating. Most boats take time to get up to speed.

Small Boats/Fishing Boats have a max of 13-15kmph. You can practically run faster than that.

PBX goes 70, only boat worth finding, plus theres only one per server, so you find it and your the only water traveller basically.

I logged back in and of course my boat was gone. Had to swim to shore. So there's another downside, you lose the boat on a DC or a reset or whatever.

Take boat to Skalisky [sic?] Island

Hole up on it, establish massive tent base

Never go anywhere else

Snipe people who come near it

Yesterday I found two fisherboats and a PBX (regular motorboat)

Fisherboats go about 15MPH and the PBX can go 70MPH. Man I was able to pick up a friend so fast from Elektro to Berezino with it. It's amazing and totally worth it. I hope I can keep it for a while =D

Did they fix the bug that was making us drop the backpack if we started swimming? Otherwise i would be scared to get a boat, i mean, assuming i would have to swim a little bit to get inside because leaving it too close to the shore would just make someone else pick it up.

I just made the long swim to shore and only lost a dmr mag, my backpack is still attached.

I found a PBX once. As a lone player I had no one to pick up, so I was just whizzing around off the coast going "wheeee!" until the server got nuked :(

I found it fully repaired and with quite a lot of fuel. I was curious as to whether they spawn like that or if I actually stole someone else's. Though it wasn't exactly hidden, so I don't think they wanted it anymore if that's the case.

Losing items in water is a legit part of the game. How much you actually lose is random. Naturally, a relatively short swim across Guba cost me my entire inventory, my backpack, primary weapon and binos. Thankfully still had my pistol and bandages.

DayZ giveth, DayZ taketh away.
