A brief analysis on pvp

Recommended Posts

Be prepared for a wall of text.

I will start off by saying that I personally try my best to avoid needless bloodshed. The kills i accrue typically consist of sitting outside elektro with a sniper rifle counter-sniping or defending those w/ hatchets or are unarmed. So this will be the cynical view point of a survivor trying to do some good.

In all honesty player killing is perfectly okay. Killing the defenseless and unarmed is less honorable, but still it is acceptable.

there are a variety of reasons for this that I would like to point out.

1. Hunting another human being is the most challenging sport a person can encounter ( for this I would like to reference "The Most Dangerous Game") hunting a fellow human that can be just as cunning and lethal is as exciting as life gets, and when it is put in a game with minimal 'end game' content it becomes acceptable because there is very little left to do. The hunter can easily become the hunted and vice-versa. So do I personally see anything wrong with player killing? No.

2. For this point I will reference Cormac McCarthy's "The Road". Granted this novel (or movie) does not include zombies but the premise is the same. In a post apocalyptic setting humans will kill other humans and groups of killers will form to hunt other groups. This is simply expression of power. Those who have power do not fear exerting it upon those without power, and those without power fear those who do. I am not saying, however that in a post-apocalyptic setting everyone becomes homicidal maniacs, that would be ridiculous ( and a poor outlook of the future of man-kind ) I am saying however that those who have the ability to exert their will on others will not shy away from doing so. This is life and for those that believe otherwise are sadly misguided in their optimism. Other arguments propose that "why would you kill the last surviving humans when we as a race are almost extinct. Why not try to rebuild or preserve who is left" For that argument I simply quote a rather well known movie "Some just want to watch the world burn"

3. Many people have made a point that killing a survivor would have ill metal effects ( similar to going insane). I am not a psychologist but I would say that after watching most of your fellow human race become infected erratic killers would probably take a toll on your mental health anyway. That kind of stress would probably lead you to make 'unwholesome' decisions whether for your survival or as stated previously - because you just want to

So I conclude that player killing is perfectly normal and acceptable in this game on the grounds that it is an exertion of power that many will wish to use and that is the most exciting and challenging sport known to man, and for those of you that bothered to read this whole post- congratulations- and thank you-

tl;dr: killing is okay.simply put.

Search button fail.

Did not read simply because it should not have it's own thread AGAIN.

I find it interesting that you mention "The Road". The whole novel, the guys kid keeps asking "are those guys good guys?" and "hwo do we know if we are the good guys?"

I've had that experience in DayZ... for example seeing a sniper on a rooftop, taking him out with an axe and realizing he had zero ammo. I was not quite sure how "heroic" I was after that...

Likewise I'm sure some of my fights have involved both me and the guy shooting at me thinking we are bandits.

I agree with your points, especially the human hunting human.

Seeing as i play with my DMR instead of my brain.

It seems your life is based on movies.

You stress the world in the novel like it is the same as the game world. "Granted this novel (or movie) does not include zombies but the premise is the same." First of all, in the novel there is no COMMON ENEMY like we have in the game.

Of course in a post-apocalyptic world your point is correct, it will be like "The Book of Eli". But they only have other humans to worry about and not zombies running about, therefore the display of power because a human needs sustenance and can decide to not fight or cower in fear.

Nice try.

I have also compared this game to the book "The Road". The whole story involving a father and sons journey across a wasteland living in fear of pretty much everything, I would say, is pretty close to how reality would play out. If you have been in some catastrophic event, you can see the breakdown in humanity began immediately in some people. In some instances, the event doesn't have to really effect the majority of people. Take the genocide in Rwanda. Total breakdown in a matter of a few hours after the assassination of some president whom most people never saw. Or what happened at the Super Dome during hurricane Katrina. Or what happened in the UK after a drug dealer was shot and the riots that ensued.

Even though there are not Zombies lurking about in the real world, the power struggle still exists. The thing that this game doesn't have(thank god) *SPOILER ALERT* that movies like "The Road" "The Divide" "Blindness" is cannibalism of newborns and rape.

Your just making the same point I am in a different word pattern. I don't understand what your trying to say.

[EDIT]: Genocide means the extinction of a race, "Take the genocide in Rwanda. Total breakdown in a matter of a few hours after the assassination of some president whom most people never saw" You need to stop watching Fox News and READ.

but do you really fear the zombies anymore? I dont. After dieing you learn to avoid them. They no longer need to be feared. they are easily escaped or avoided. The challenge of the game isnt from surviving the zombies its surviving the players

I've died over 10 times and have never died by zombies and I started playing this game 3 days ago. I've only died by other survivors.

Now i understand the life expectancy is so short because of PvP.

I don't know the actual challenge of the game, but i know that alot of you players are giving into the simplicity of the game and somehow creating a fun with no challenge: Blasting another survivor in the head so you can take his weapons, food, and water without risking yourself trying to scavenge them.

Cool

I didn't mean to sound rude. But you have to appreciate that people that have been on the forums a while see threads like this every day.

It get's tiresome by thread number 20,000,001.
