Possible solution to paranoid killing

Hey this is my first post but i'll just get straight to the point. I love the mod but as many people have pointed out in the past there is far too much player killing in the game currently, but i peronsally believe that most of the current killings in game arent from banditry but from the paranoia of it. I've found that the only reason i've ever killed any other player in the game is out of the "if i dont kill him he will kill me" factor and frankly in this kind of survival situation that simply wouldnt be the mindset for most people.

I apologise if this has allready been suggested but my suggestion is simply on login (not character creation) you choose ethier a standard skin or a bandit skin, bandits may kill and be killed by any player while as standard skinned players may not kill eachother but can still kill or be killed by bandits.

The reasoning behind this is simply to identify other friendly players and increase the chance of cooperation while still keeping the other hostile player fear factor and stopping as i said before paranoid killing. This also allows people to log out and log back in into a bandit skin if they wish to player hunt.

anyway i would like to hear other peoples opinions on this idea.

Double-tap CTRL to lower weapon (works on primary weapons only).

The body language is enough to get someone to let you walk by.

That and bind your Surrender key. If the bandit isn't a total ass they might just take your stuff!

I like to think my running away body language would be enough to deter being shot at, but I still get shot at.

I won't engage unless I have to.

it would help if there was a better chat system. to be honest, even if i come across someone who isnt a bandit and we have both decided not to shoot eachother, i would like to group with them, unfortunately, its hard to do that or come up with stratagies when all the players are mute. i dont happen to believe that everyone playing this game lacks the ability to form words, so why are the players? The idea makes sense though, a real nice solution of "im a good guy" and "im a bad guy". the fact that you cant be a "bad guy" without wearing the bad guy badge makes the whole thing possible. i dont see any issue with this, the fun factor is more important than the realism. (something this game really needs to take into account before ending the beta)

Good idea, the only problem I see is. What is a non bandit came across A bandit. Once the bandit saw them they would be dead. And they cant defend themself.. Very good idea, but youll have to find a loop around that.

And you're absolutely sure anyone who's shot you first wasn't just looking to get your gear?

Everyone likes to say how they'd do something in real life, and I can guarantee, you would not trust a random someone running into a room at you with a gun.

But if this is such a problem for you, you could try what most people do which is to yell "FRIENDLY, FRIENDLY" over your mic and then get shot.

So NOOOOOOOO. If u want to know why there should be no punishment systems or stuff like it to solve shoot on sight.

as i mentioned in the post bandits would be able to kill and be killed by anyone including standard skinned players.

yeh im sure the players who shot me loved the look of my invisable guns..... as for the real life yeh i wouldnt trust them but i wouldnt shoot them straight off the bat ethier, hell if nothing else they could make good zed bait!

That is the intention. If a bandit sees you they almost always have an idea of killing you. it would be nice if you could effectively shoot bandits on site the same way that bandits shoot you on site. it is simply to balance the equation. of course the other reason is it REALLY would be nice to know if people are friendly, because i myself am getting bored of shooting most of the people i meet due to distrust

There is no problem here, you simply read wrong. bandits can kill AND be killed by anyone. Friendlies can kill and be killed by bandits, but not kill or be killed by friendlies. in other words, the only difference is that friendlies deal 0 damage to other friendlies.

This is right up there with asking criminals in real life to wear oversized hats to identify that that have the intention of breaking the law.

The intention of this isnt to identify bandits its simply to promote co-operation while keeping the mod as similar to its current situation as possible.

For bandits it will be exactly the same as just now since everyone kills everyone for basically no reason anyway, and for survivors it will be exactly the same aswell when you hear gunshots you're still going to avoid the player firing and you're more than likely still going to get shot from building a couple of hundred yards away. The literal only difference is that it would stop players that want to play co-operatively from killing everyone on sight to survive.

The whole bandit skin thing honestly would make no difference at all at this point in time, i've heard people complain that it takes away from the "con" aspect of the mod but there isnt one. Also lets be honest if you're a bandit and dont want to player kill for a while there would be nothing stopping a quick relog allthough that wouldnt stop you being shot at.

yeah thats a good point. this mod only works if you are allowed to leave the server and rejoin as a different player type. i for one wouldnt mind occasionaly playing as a bandit when i want to go solo and switching to friendly when i feel like group playing.

Question: Does direct voice chat work on all servers? How can i find out if it works or not? And does text chat always work or is it sometimes buggy?
