Zombie Speed

Overall I think the zombies run to fast. I would like to see where they would be slowed down a bit at full run and maybe drag one leg. They just are missing that little bit to make them feel more real. Best example I can give you is watch the walking dead .. That is how zombies should move. I understand being a mod of arma 2 this may not be possilbe ..

Zombies would be decomposing so Id imagine they cant hear see or run as well. So they should run a bit slower

I personally think zombies should move only slightly faster than players. At this point in time, they seem to be able to run at 75%-100% faster than us.

Infact, from my experience with other older games from the early 2000s, running speed causes many of the pathing issues, issues we see in this mod. By that I mean zig-zaging, phasing through walls, etc.

But if the devs decrease their speed, they'll need to increase the zombie's health. And even then, I think the zombies should run a little faster than players, but only 10-15%.

I think they are waiting to get zombies to attack while moving, and so the increased super-sprinting comes through as the only way a zombie might ever have a chance at hitting a running player, even if it is rare.

Dude real zombie movies the zombies move at a slow to med pace. Never at a full sprint .. And I 35 years of age bud. The bad zombie movies only had the zombies sprinting ..

I think zombie speed is just fine. The only thing which could be improved is adding some more zombie types which have different behaviour. The PvE part could be improved by looking at Left 4 Dead which has multiple zombie types. If there would be bigger zombies which cant be brought down with one shot or even one magazine but having some nice loot instead, this would open a whole-other door in this game.

there is a thread showing alternate zombies in a youtube video that i like, called "zombie ideas" not a very origional name for the thread so its not easy to find, but the zombies are basically set as a hoard, similar to the dead rising setting. and naturally they should have more health but still be 1 shot head shotsable, move much slower other than the occasional sprinter. and these sprinters lose interest a bit sooner than the current Zeds, which chase you across the entire god damn map

This exact thread has been done already with much more intelligence, perhaps if you'd used the search function you would have seen them. Though given what I see here, you probably just failed to spell a word properly and came back with zero results. To be fair, I agree with your point. The ideal situation would be to have actual walking corpses instead of the 28 Days Later/ L4D infected that are present in this mod. I'd love it if they died only when the brain is destroyed, moved slower, and were far more numerous.

I couldn't disagree more with everything in this post, your desire to make this fantastic game into a fruity MMO/L4D hybrid is more far more terrifying to me than 28 Days Later ever was. I know deep down I should respect your opinion.....but I just can't lol. I respect your right to have an opinion, just not this one.

These are NOT zombies, these are infected peoples. There is a frickin' huge difference there. And yes real Zombies are the Romero ones, everything that can run/sprint/jog/think(other than hunger for flesh) is not a zombie, but someone infected. It's not against the movie, i'm not trying to be offensive about this, but the game is called DayZ, not DayI (iDay if it'd be an Apple product), also the homepage has a nice zombie counter. And that's as far it goes, zombie walks, infected runs. But I expressed my opinion about this way better here. And for me a horde of zombies on you (100 for example) with one magazine of Desert Eagle sounds way scarier than 10 hyper-fast-bugged-to-the-bones-zig-zagging zombies.

IF they are not zombies then do not call them that. If you call them Zombies make the running speeds right and add more. Big hordes is what is scary .. Not 2 guys running crazy at you .

Why is it EVERY DAMN THREAD I find talking about zombie speed and health, everyone assumes that they're dead, the damn lore stated clearly on the site says:

Welcome to Chenarus. A 225 km2 open world post-soviet state and one of the areas hit by a new and presently unknown infection which has wiped out most of the world's population. You are one of the few who have survived and now you must search this new wasteland in order to fight for your life against what is left of the indigenous population, now infected with the disease.

You people need to think, there's no reason these INFECTED people should not be capable of running as fast or faster than you.

You're all really shitty with zombie lore. There are, in effect, two types of zombies: regular, shambling Romero zombies, and sprinting zombies. Yes, sprinters can still be zombies, you fucking tools. There have been a score of zombie films depicting agile, Usaine Bolt-esque zombies. Then there are films like 28 Days Later, where it portrays them as "infected." DayZ is the latter (though it's a bit fucked, in my opinion, because they're referred to as 'infected' when they are very clearly the living dead, Goddammit).

At any rate, in terms of gameplay - having nothing to do with zombie lore, because why the fuck should it? - I believe zombie speed should be decreased. They aren't too hard, or anything, they just look fuckin' dumb. They sprint in zig-zaggy patterns, frequently stopping to stare at you because they keep hitting a proximity trigger by getting too close to you. It's absolutely silly.

I wouldn't consider crawling zombies; they're a subtype. They can be either or, depending on why they're crawling. As for the zombies in-game muttering human words - I've never heard it. I've heard them make human noises, but that's an issue with DayZ/ArmA II bugs, as far as I know.
