luikhang1234 2 Posted July 23, 2012 I bought Arma 2 yesterday and am still learning the ropes. I manage to successfully join 1 in every 10 servers. So once I'm in the odds of me finding a gun are another 1 in 10. A few minutes ago I just died after my most successful start.I started by a big town, no idea which one. By I was sprinting through it from house to house, losing zombies, finding stuff. I happened on a pistol and a lee enfield. Lots of ammo for both. I find binoculars, a tent, and even a map. So I thought, I better get the hell out of here before this ends sour. I sprint out of town and no zombies in sight. I was planning to find a quiet place to setup a tent, but first I wanted to look through the map.So as I am looking through the map I hear zombies flood past about 20m away. I only saw heads fly over some tall grass. They weren't after me, so I knew another player was nearby. I use my binoculars to see another player with a hatchet with a trail of five zombies behind him. Being the new player that has spent much of the last 24 hours in the same situation I think .... I wish someone with a gun would have come and saved me. So I follow the horde to a house where they are running circles and mow them all down with my makarov. The guy says "friend" and I'm like, oh yeah, first succesfull nonhostile interaction. Then I realize I have no idea how to type back to him. So I'm pressing random keys hoping to get a /say prompt with no luck. The guy is still standing there and type "\" which now I am wondering if it means something? Anyway, he isn't trying to hack me a new one so I go into options to try and find which button to use to talk to him, only to realize he is now hacking me a new one. Not really sure what to think about that situation. All my interactions with players have immediately resulted in hostilities on their part. Even when I'm wonded, legs broken, they will kill me asap. My friends and I have not had a succesful interaction short of my brief one stated above that ender bad. Our plan now is once we are well situated to not actively become bandits (as in not seek out people to kill) but definately murder any players we see that approach us. Is there some type of etiquete we are missing or are people mostly douche bags?

Velourium 3 Posted July 23, 2012 Is there some type of etiquette we are missing or are people mostly douche bags? This is the apocalypse, fuck etiquette. Most players would rather just kill you in the chance you have some good loot. There's no incentive for grouping up at low levels of play. luikhang1234 2 Posted July 23, 2012 This this guy was chasing me. I had a glock with a full 17 round mag. He had a lee enfield. I position myself in a corn and wait for him to come up after me. He jolts up the ladder and stands there for 2 second. I unload about 10 rounds into his gut. He then turns to face me and shoots me once, I instantly die. He doesn't die.Is this the case of an exploit or an admin giving himself invincibility or what?
kentk94 194 Posted July 23, 2012 Etiquette? In DayZ? There are no rules here.Survival is the law of the land. Survival by any means necessary.Welcome to DayZ. You'll die....a lot and don't get attached to your loot.Good news is, as quick as you die, you can get re-geared just as fast. Just takes time to figure out the lay of the land. Nobody knows what they would do in this type of situation unless they have been in this type of situation. Shoot on sight, pffft. Most of you would shit on sight. Choice in either shooting a guy running from zombies or saving him, I am sure in reality one would opt to save him or not shoot at all in order to preserve their own life. There is a reason they call it Zombie Apocalypse, because the zombies are killing everyone, not the humans. If it were the humans doing it, there is another word for that, its called Genocide. Most people in games have never shot a real gun before.I have to say the community as a whole has a major disappointment. Combined with pouring tons of hours/days into a character only to have it blown away by an bug or exploit...as opposed to you fucking up.

Muffinsforever 4 Posted July 24, 2012 I'm a new player too. On my current character I met another survivor on the beach and we teamed up running to Cherno and he was the first to get a weapon and he didn't kill me. Sadly, a glitch killed him when he tried to walk into this badly setup house that you have to vault into to get inside the door. It was cool having someone to talk to and I never saw him again. I wished I coulda saw how that would of went if he stayed alive.

Get that notion out of your head. A head shot is a head shot is a kill, no matter what weapon so their gear is not why they killed you. Lemmings get killed cause they jump off a cliff, stop jumping off that cliff. The OP died cause he meddled. He made his choice and payed the price, whether it be due to lack of being able to communicate or the guy was going to do it anyways. Who knows, but what we do know is if he minded his own business from a distance he would have lived. He could of even still helped the guy in lived if he used that Enfield and took zeds out at range.Accept the consequences of your choices, people.
