Is a mic really mandatory?

Recommended Posts

I would love to be able to play with someone without having to get a mic. And actually acquiring a microphone is not the issue for me...

And while i realize voice chat would be more useful, in DayZ in particular, i would imagine a group who knows what they're doing and have planned ahead what to do

if they run into trouble, could manage without saying little to nothing at all.

Call me crazy, but speaking to strangers over the internet is about as scary to me as getting shot at by them.

Hey, I'm new to the game. I would like to find a good server and team up with someone. I can use a mic but I would prefer not to.

I'm a chick, got a family and it's a bit weird talking to people in a game while my family is around.

No it aint, just tell them your speaking with people in the game, then they wont get surprised if your speaking another language or saying something out of the blue.

You have to talk in this game in order to coordinate positions or anything else.

You can't stop to type when you're being shot at by bandits or attacked by zombies.

You have to be able to relay locations over voice chat.

If you are self-conscious you are not going to be able to team up with a group.

If you are not a very chatty person, then don't talk, just listen in on the chat and respond with "yes" or "no" and the occasional, "HELP, AT ____ LOCATION."

You need to get over this.

If your family or whatever hears you talking, tough stuff, and if the idea of talking to guys online when you're a female isn't appealing, then again, only speak when you NEED to, don't respond otherwise. It means nothing that you are online playing video games. You have to get over it if you want to successfully group.

I would never play with someone who had to stop to type in the middle of a fight to tell me information about the attacker. Not only that, but if you are killed by an attacker, theres no regroup possible or information relay possible about the attacker to your team-mates - because you're dead and they are still alive in game worried about what just happened and they have no idea what just happened.

Sorry, good luck chatting in game, but it won't work out.

Person A is going to meet Person B outside Cherno.

Person A sees someone on the hill, the same hill Person B said he'd be on.

Person A minimizes the game to send a steam message to Person B.

Person B says, "That's not me on the hill."

Person A quickly maximizes back in. He's dead.

So you can run around saying "friendly, friendly"? Then get shot anyways? Not mandatory at all. They are useful in groups of course but the game itself gets too boring/easy-mode in a group.
