Why use tents?

So I finally decided to use a tent, I put it in the middle of no where, I couldn't even find it without a map and I wrote down the cords. I had like 3 as50, 2 dmr, 3 m4 sd's, m24, couple of nvgs and range finders from killing people in and around elecktro. It also looks like it was replaced, the front of it is hovering off the ground, it wasn't like that before.

So I go back this morning and the tents been cleaned right out. lol

FYI it didn't get robbed, items are disappearing from everything ,even vehicle invetories get a clean wipe for some reason, even when I save them.

Hiding tents is the hard part, look for fern(sp) trees that are clumped together and should one under, makes it considerable harder to spot and of course away from any hotspots.

I've had my tent and ATV set up for the last few days and not been found yet, does take me a good 20 minutes to reach from anywhere of note!

My camp/atv has same items for days now, only time I lost it was when there was a patch, of course it is possible your items poofed as it often happens with any if the inventory system but sounds too me you just got robbed, unless you has some really crappy gear no looter would want and would probably have left?

Edit, also try saving a few times I watch a utube video and the guy said to multi save to make sure and I always save 3 times before I leave!

I heard you can place a tent under water if the spot is somewhat flat, I kind want to try it out because if it works who would relly look in the water for a tent.

I've had three tents (all naturally gathered from supermarkets mind you) setup for days on end and they've not been raided (and no you can't have server name and coords :P). I somehow managed to actually get them clumped together in a group of encircling trees so they're well hidden and off the beaten path somewhat so its a low risk area. I do still expect to be raided so like others have posted I tend to just keep backup supplies and nothing overly rare in them. Mainly they're my insurance against death/respawn so I have a place to go to 'quip up rather than risk a city run.

One tip with tents, save them, but twice in a row. Seems to help.

The best advice I've read is place a tent, put a can of beans or something similarly small and common and save the tent. If the tent is still there after the restart, it's usually a safe bet.

I found my first tent the other day. Pitched it, filled it and not 5 minutes later the server restarted and ate the entire tent with everything in it. I've been checking the same spot for a few days just in the hopes that it comes bacl, and 48 hours later my tent reappeared with all of the stuff still inside it. I think it's really just random.

tents near rocks are also hard to see. any tent will be found if you're cxlose enough but just glancing at rocks it's hard to pick them out.

you use tents so you can have all your stuff back when dieing... which is against the whole point of the game... tents should vanish as soon as your character dies...
