I just surprised about new feature of 1.5.8 update about no longer fill in the sea...

But do i need to drop all my equipment to just fill my water in ponds? Why do you think that water in ponds clear enough?

I think it will be better to use "water purification tablets" for sea and ponds

yes, there are a lot of medical items skins, they just need to rename one and set a new functions to clear pond and sea water

This makes much more sense than using some ultra rare item that literally no one in the region would own.

Water purification tablets are not for desalination (removing salts), they are for killing pathogens/bacteria etc...

You would need a reverse-osmosis pump, or some way to distill the water by evaporating it over a fire then condensing the pure water and letting it run into a container. I.e. taking salts out of a solution with water is not easy...

The time you spend on dropping all your gear, you could use on resting before entering the water. If your character is breathing heavily, don't enter the water. You only drop your gear if you're exhausted.
