Lyncher 18 Posted July 21, 2012 Hello Everyone, Essentially I would like to reduce violent encounters with other players. I do enjoy a good shootout and love my FPS games and I think hostile players are essential for the enviroment but not everyone is a prick right? I think if we had an effective way to show we are no aggressive we would have a chance to stop and trade with each other. As about something or maybe, just maybe not fucking shoot each other. So if anyone has tips, tricks or ideas on how to best approach someone else safely and without bloodshed being the first step that would be great. If we could try to maybe set some generic gestures/actons that could be easily expalned and spread around that would be awsome.I hope this topic can try to stay on topic and be productive. Please! Stewart (DayZ) 0 Posted July 21, 2012 Join a server with less people obviously and if you want to relaly avoid one dont go into heavily populated areas or if you wanna loot them check for about 5min to see if anyones there and then quickly run in loot and leave
Adjta (DayZ) 37 Posted July 21, 2012 Some people salute to show that they're friendly but that's a bit exposing. Another thing you could do is make sure you have the jump on them. Maybe you're behind a wall or can see them around the corner. Tell them you're friendly. If they respond in the same way ask them to lower their gun then expose yourself. Never turn your back this newfound "friend". Always maintain line of sight until you part ways.

Avoiding is just rolling the dice. Its when you turn that corner and there is a guy with a gun who just turned a corner too. Its the step after that. The o shit bang, bang, bang. I get it, I try talking but it is usually to late and typing is a write off unless they wait lol. What I want to figure out is something ingame that could be used to show you are non aggressive. I have had sucess twice getting the jump on someone and talking first. I have been wasted 3 times without firing a shot and stating my intentions.

T.G. 48 Posted July 21, 2012 I have heard the lean dance is a sign of non-hostility, q e q e q e, if nothing else you might matrix dodge a few shots before the dust settles. Good luck anyway.

Stubbies 67 Posted July 21, 2012 Back pedal, whilst holding down direct chat saying "FRIENDLY - DO NOT FIRE", Then double-tap Lctrl to lower your weap IF they show positive body language / response. Theres about a 4 second time frame here.By back pedalling and saying friendly obviously your body language is saying Neutral/PassiveAgressive. Your taking charge, rather then pointing your gun and yelling "GET ON THE GROUND NOW".

Simply stepping back is probably key and I have done that most everytime I ran into anyone. Very good point tho.
yankee_1776@live.com 20 Posted July 21, 2012 Be patient, always travel the longer and safer routs and not the open ground. Scout a town before you enter it, and join severs with less people. If you come across someone and you don't want to make contact, just head right back the opposite way. Go into the wilderness and stay away from the spawn locations on the coast. Low pop servers are no fun :(. I mean if I just want to get gear sure solo is not so bad with no people on but it takes the risk factor completly out and makes it less intense. I don't mind being up north, the big citys on the coast offer very little of interest. I only hit Berzino and that was just for better chance of getting camo gear but thats a bust apparently as it no longer spawns so booooo. No my only reason to go near the big citys will be fast gearing on respawn or hospitals.
Lyncher 18 Posted July 21, 2012 I recently had several encounters with other survivors and one event turned out very well. I met two people in the army tents at Stary. Things went very slow and calm, no issues with them and we end up going to the NWA and loot the whole base. We find a crashed helicopter and go abck too some of my tents to spread the loot out. So that was cool.Next group we met merced one of us and we got one of them. Got nasty very quick with them firing from cover and us running and gunning. They waited over 30 mins for us to come back and hit us again. Very fun! But alas I died from a guy laying under a tree in complete blackness. Only big loss was a GPS :(. jjake121 11 Posted July 22, 2012 I think in the new Dayz patch they will be implementing a reputation and morality system. Hopefully with this you may be able to see other peoples reputation on sight lets say if your 50m away from them and have visual you see there name and there reputation. That way people will instantly be able to tell whether you are a reputable for being good or reputable for being bad. hopefully this is how the new patch will work. In the current patch when you see someone try and observe them and there actions for a while and catch them while looting, shout "friendly" in direct communication wait for either a text response or a voice response. If no text or voice response they WILL back stab you, so pop one into there chest or head.

And I'm sure Rocket intends to keep it that way... Having a floating morality bar above someones head is far from real. Having a floating morality bar above someones head is far from real.I hope rocket realizes this is a game and in order for it to function you need some game elements. If its going to be thought of in a realism way, If there is a guy that you know in the game, you have seen him before then surely in real life you would recognize him or her? currently with skins being random you can't really do that. Perhaps more customisable skins?
Hoboleader 22 Posted July 22, 2012 ive talked my way out of a firefight i was outgunned on. i said "if you kill me you wont find my vehicle."then I lead them around till i found a place to run/dc. they had me as a prisoner so i wasnt gonna risk a shootout.saying "friendly dont shoot" doesnt work as well as saying "ill show you my stash if you let me live"when ure dealing with groups bandits. Richie364 0 Posted July 22, 2012 The morality thing has been removed, it was in the game previously as well as Bandits getting a different skin. I just yell "Friendly" and hope for the best :P Any friendlies here got a blood bag willing to give me a transfusion in the NW? Been searching for ages nobody is around! :(
DayzSandBox 157 Posted July 22, 2012 @OPsimilar to the salute, you can lower your gun by doubletapping (left)crtl. Requires being visible, but other than the direct channel it seems to be the only ways of showing that you have no ill intent.
