You also have to remember that due to the fact that our characters run so fast, vehicles are sort of obsolete. I mean yeah, sure you need one if you're going from one end of the map to the other, but the random shit that happens to them - ATVs flip, cars blow up - makes them a rather dangerous form of travel - not forgetting the fact that anyone and everyone will shoot at you as you're riding around in your big bullet magnet.

Lucky.

Due to the enormity of the world, fast travel is essential. Walking to a nearby town could take up to 10 hours of real time, a far off town in another province could take several days.

Chernarus is nothing.
