Powell (DayZ) 734 Posted July 20, 2012 Anyone else surprised that a city like Cherno only has like 4 (or something) working cars? Let's say something like a Day Z event happened IRL and Cherno is like Boston (East Coast US). It'd be very easy to find a car that works. In the world we know, cars are everywhere. Ever just watch a highway? Where did all those cars go?
aversionfx 63 Posted July 20, 2012 No. The thing that makes vehicles "great" is that they're rare and relatively hard to fix.Making them more common would just denigrate the value of vehicles.
Camper-joe 17 Posted July 20, 2012 I agree, vehicles are only awesome because they are so rare.
tehNuka 14 Posted July 20, 2012 Do more vechicles but make them harder to fix (like 10 hull parts to repair instead of 1)
Powell (DayZ) 734 Posted July 20, 2012 Yes they're great if you find one, but as it stands, it is WAY easier to simply steal a vehicle then to repair one. In the few months I've played Day Z, I've only seen 1ATV that actually spawned, non repaired. Everything else was already taken; plus if we're gonna push 100~ players in the future, most of them will never use a vehicle

Vehicles should remain rare.
Zetal 90 Posted July 20, 2012 I agree about Vehicle scarcity...but why not have the best of both worlds? More vehicles that CAN be repaired, but increase the difficulty to repair them by a relative factor of how much you increased their spawn rates. Essentially, you'd keep the number of vehicles the same, but make the world a bit more immersive.
KnT47r 51 Posted July 20, 2012 I'm on board for there being twice as many vehicles as long as they are thrice as hard to get up and running again.I'm sure that 95% of the population couldn't even change a wheel on a car let along repair one from dead to drivable(did you know that 59% of statistics on the internet are made up on the spot?) Arnie (DayZ) 21 Posted July 20, 2012 There is one vehicle that i'd like to see ingame ontop of the current ones and thats an unarmed helicopter maybe a red cross one or army medical one.
KennyNZ 121 Posted July 20, 2012 Realism isn't the goal. It would be dumb if their were 500 working vehicles on map, thus there's not :)
youfindhans@gmail.com 27 Posted July 20, 2012 Me and my team found a bus once and fixed it up.The really cool part about it was that it was hard to fix. and hard to find parts. We had to cover the thing and at the samet ime look at parts. We killed like 5 players in the process. The problem though is that most vehicles are already gone. and well hidden.I think it would be good if players would be forced to take the vehicle to certain places where they could get attacked.i dont know how it works right now with fuel etc. i know they can fill canisters at the fuel stations. But perhaps the fuel stations should only be in the big cities. And a canister should only be carried in the hand so that people will have the vehicle nearby instead of them being able to collect it by foot and take it to there hidden vehicle. or use empty servers and put them in the bag and take them with them. the jerry can should be something that is server bound and carried. mopster 4 Posted July 20, 2012 +1 from me.I'd go for more vehicles. It would add some gameplay I'd love to see. Hijacking/ambushing. Whats the point in barbed wire and tank traps if not to set up a road block somewhere and patiently wait to trap some people in a car? Only problem at the moment is you could set one up and never see a car, ever. Also, when you do have a vehicle at the moment you are given a pretty big advantage as you'll rarely run into another group or survivor with one. More vehicles means you have the chance of being followed or even chased over greater distances.More vehicles = more action. I wouldn't even see that they need to be made harder to repair as the more vehicles about and being actually used in-game, the greater turnover in vehicles there will be through hostile contact. That's my thought anyway.
