The Return of Starting With a Weapon

Good post, I also disagree however, but with your argument not specifically starting with a weapon or not. If I understand correctly, your opposition to not having a spawn weapon is that it results in a sense of needing to do something rather than allowing you full freedom to launch into what you WANT to do, yes? Whilst I hopefully understand your point I think that logically it leads to an argument for starting with a full or partially full kit. I shall explain. Even if you start with a weapon, you are still obliged to set about doing things that you NEED to do rather than want. You still need food and water, you still need to find certain items of equipment. Even if spawning with a weapon gave you a feeling of independance you would still need to do certain things sooner or later, most likely sooner. If you wished to remove the coersive effect of needing to do/collect certain things almost immediately upon spawning then logically (to my mind anyway) you would need to spawn with at minimum food and water in addition to a weapon and ammunition. It would not be much of a stretch to use the same argument to start with an axe, matches, knife, morphine etc etc. I know that's not exactly what you are suggesting but I think that is where your logic leads. What do you think? My personal opinion: I am happy without a weapon but have no qualms about that changing. It might be interesting to have a random allocation of equipment upon spawning so that sometimes you start with some bits and bobs and sometimes maybe even nothing at all (this might reflect the variety of survivors and how they came to be washed up on Chernarus' beaches). I agree with the above poster though that it'd be nice to have no thermal optics in the game. :D

    Fix artifacting, FFS.

Set your video memory to default. Worked a charm for me. Have seen very little artifacting since. My processor and GFX card: Phenom II 965 BE VTX3D Radeon HD 6950 2gb EDIT: That is in the in-game video setting btw

    stuck

I have a similar problem too.
  4. Hmm. I had a guy earlier today stalk up to me invisibly (I could hear the footsteps but not see him). All of a sudden he's there and my entire loadout has changed. Sounds like it was switched to what you had: AS50 thermal sights, M1911, coyote b/p and all the inventory items. I dumped the AS50 on the ground said 'I'm sorry good sir but I do not wish to carry around an illegitimate weapon given to me by a game hacker such as yourself' or words to that effect. Then he shot me dead. This was on UK7 and I let the admins know about it. Since starting my new life I have been shot 'at' but not yet hit, so I hope the same thing doesn't happen to me. Out of interest, I noticed that the hacker/scrippie had a hold of my G17 after my stuff changed so I guess they 'swap' all yours/our items over rather than spawn in new ones? maybe? I dunno... Guy was a Dean.R.Koontz either way.

My Dayz Shortfilm. my vision on dayz

Really great vids. I love that speech, I mean really love it, probably the greatest speech I've heard.
  6. @ MikhaelM: Skalisty is a nice idea but it may not be available on UK7 and having to rely on boats is a vulnerability I'd say. I'm not going to be critical anymore about what happened the other night. Lessons have been learned. @ Carnage: Fair enough, like I said I don't do sniping so don't have the insight.
  7. I'm not a sniper but the Berezino plot looked reasonably safe from Snipers to me? Are you thinking of the treeline far to the West? Only other particular points I saw were either on one of the apartment blocks (one man could prevent snipers setting up there), or just north-east there was a Storage tower thing (that didn't have overwatch on main area of their site though). EDIT: Why not use the Docks? The hangers can be protected quite easily surely and there is no way to snipe at them except for the north and South which would have no real cover for a sniper.
  8. There was no attempt to communicate with me as far as I recall. My local VON is enabled and I didn't hear a thing. If you were typing up then remember that that is likely to not work when someone is focused entirely on threats. Like I said, sorry for raining on your parade. But also, if you are trying to lock down somewhere you need to patrol the perimeter otherwise there's no point. I entered unopposed. However, going on what Sean said I don't think I was the main trouble you had that night. To repeat myself one more time, that IS a good position there (questions about the sandbags not withstanding) but if you want to hold it then you have to try to hold it. Also, you could've had me much sooner if you pressed the advantages you were given. If the others had been there but were also just running around and throwing flares about then it is likely that more of you would have died not less, sorry, not trying to be cocky but you didn't make it hard for me at all. I'm not writing this to piss you off, I like the idea and will help if I can. I'm trying to be constructive.
  9. Coolio. I don't have skype but I'll PM Steins. Take care bud and good luck :D
  10. Ah, well I didn't post anything up in chat so it weren't me then. Good. The main reason I came looking was all the flares and I heard shots as I approached. I guess by the little pokey out tongue face that you are lumping me in the 'Bandit' category then? Fair enough given what happened but I can be trusted and my offer to help out still stands. Put it this way, if I had known what was going on there I would either have stayed away or announced myself.
  11. Ah, shizzle. It was me at the end I think. I chucked a couple of grenades as I thought 3 of you were quite close together (I am a crap shot it appears). I did NOT ghost in. Not my style, I don't hack, script, alt+f4 or ghost I play honestly. I was already in the compound when I tossed the grenades. I entered on the south side where there is a large gap in the wall. You had sandbags and wire there but I removed them and entered there. Hence, as I was saying, it IS a secure compound but you need to maintain watch on certain parts of the wall. So rather than try again with a new spot, learn from what happened at this one and improve it. I recognised Mikhael's name as well (just been reading back through posts from yesterday), sorry Mik.
  12. OK cool. Was it you in there then? I counted four guys, the fourth took me down literally as the server went down for a restart. I'd say it's a good spot for a trade post but there are insecure points in the walls that need constant watch. Why don't you consider using a second server as 'passport control'. You have a couple of guys on that server with little or no gear. They meet the people who want to enter the Post and guide them to a very specific point within the post where they can log into UK7 (or wherever). Anyone who joins the server hosting the post who is not where they are expected is shot on sight. Use of 3rd party comms (Skype, TS3 etc) would be required but it would allow better control of who comes in and recognition of genuine customers. Also the use of comms would mean that you would expect people so again, unexpected guests are shot on sight. Again, I think your present spot is a good one, quite secure and with a few guards inside and out you should be secure-ish..... Last question, was it actually your guys I shot? Or just randoms in the outpost? If it is the former then I will offer my services to you as penance. If not, then well, I may come as a customer. It'd be nice to know either way. Good luck chaps.
  13. Er, was it you lot on UK7 down near the docks at Berezino last night? Fortified factory area? Bus in the corner etc etc many sandbags and wires fences? Had a run in about, I don't know, midnight-1am (UTC)? If so, I like what you did with the place. If I'd known you were a friendly bunch things would have gone differently (helluva buzz though). But I am genuinely really sorry if you were trying to set something up. I'll try to pay a bit more attention to the Forums in future  . I am normally quite friendly with people when situations allow for it.

There needs to be a LOT more vehicles (2x)

+1 from me. I'd go for more vehicles. It would add some gameplay I'd love to see. Hijacking/ambushing. Whats the point in barbed wire and tank traps if not to set up a road block somewhere and patiently wait to trap some people in a car? Only problem at the moment is you could set one up and never see a car, ever. Also, when you do have a vehicle at the moment you are given a pretty big advantage as you'll rarely run into another group or survivor with one. More vehicles means you have the chance of being followed or even chased over greater distances. More vehicles = more action. I wouldn't even see that they need to be made harder to repair as the more vehicles about and being actually used in-game, the greater turnover in vehicles there will be through hostile contact. That's my thought anyway.
  15. I think it's the scopes rather than the rifles. I'd be happy to see what happens for a while if the scopes were removed. It is exactly like the OP points out too, this is Alpha, this is the time to try these things out.
