PvP kills: what % would you do for real?

Real life vs Game

  1. 1. What percentage of your PvP kills would yo have done in the same real-life scenario?

    • 95% I act in game as I would in real life
    • 75% I try to act most like I would for real
    • 50% I'm so so with acting realistic
    • Less than 25%its just a game

This is not a topic about whether PvP should be part of the game, it is asking whether the kills you make against other players (whether 1 or 1000) are reflection of how you would really act in a post apocalyptic zombie scenario? As a game is there any changes that would make you play it more authentically to the situation? Or will it always be just a game where you enjoy the battle against others?

Well as seeing we're not ACTUALLY in a zombie apocalypse....

Hard to tell what we'd do.

Is that a new content suggestion or you been reading the road?

In RL you don't respawn when you die. Unless you believe in reincarnation, in which case, you respawn very slowly. That makes any comparison to the game irrelevant.

You could ask the same question about PvE kills: How many times would you risk your life going into a zombie infested city for some canned food?

Obviously I play this like a game b/c I can respawn, log off and come back to the real world where there is relative security, etc.

IRL I would try to reconstruct civilization, as I think most people would do. I think more people would do that in-game as well given the option. I'd imagine a wild west sort of game world given the appropriate mechanics, but it's extremely hard to do when you can't identify players, deal with people logging in behind your defenses, etc.

It'd definitely be interesting to have cities to trade gear with other players, socialize, meet & group up with other survivors, etc. Maybe even let players make posters advertising their city and posting it on bulletin boards around the world (I know survivors tend to be about immersion, and cry when they have to check a forum to find out about player cities on any given servers).

So we should add unicorns to this game because there is no grey area for authenticity or realism?

If you was starving you wouldn't?

In real life I'd stack up 100s if not 1000s cans of beans and go on top of the hotel in Cherno with an AS50 that I found in someone's garage and shoot at everything that moves.

You're shooting, but are you friendly?

Started off trying to play this realistically but now it's a game and I no longer have a problem with sending people to the coast (it's been done to me enough times) :P

This topic is absolutely awkward.

People sitting on their ass playing videogames voting about how badass they would probably be in RL, seriously?

Well I can't speak for other people but I play the game like I would in real life, I am the mountain man who avoids others so I don't have to kill them. I've only shot at 1 person in game because I was cornered in the dark. I fired 1 shotgun shell at them and ran like hell in the confusion. I play realistically in the sense I don't kill or harm others unless I'm cornered or in self defense.. I was curious how many people kill others would also do so in real life.

And yes I have a stockpile of weapons, ammo, and survival gear so I could disappear into the wilderness should society fall apart.

I probably wouldn't get my hands on an M16 IRL.

Cost or the country you are in? I have an Ak47, 30-06, Rem 870, and a XD45 personally.

I think what Perestain meant was that people can't know if they would have reacted the same way in real life. It is very likely that they wouldn't have, though.

If there was a zombie apocalypse here in Belgium you'd not even find a slingshot, a double barreled shot gun would most likely the best you'd realisticly find and it would be extreme rare loot.

Its about immersion. When I'm seeing another person in the game I try to treat them as a real person. I take it somewhat seriously minus bugs or glitches which foil immersion. Do you do the same or do you just see a computer model controlled by another person who you don't care if they live or die bc you don't take it seriously or real. I was talking to an older guy about this game and told him about the rampant murdering. His response? He figures its authentic, that human beings once you remove the force of law and society will turn on each other like feral beasts. I agreed some would be like that, but the numbers are inflated bc some treat it as just a game.

I was also curious what could be changed in the game to make people treat more seriously and less like a game.

Been playing Arma so long with likeminded people as realisticly as we can possibly make it, that playing it (and to me this mod is still 100% Arma...just that...a mod) in a realistic fashion is sort of ingrained and comes naturally. It feels "off" if I approach it any other way....

The difference is that in real life everybody belongs to a social network (I'm not a native english speaker so I don't know if it's the right way to put it but by social network I don't mean a website, rather the actual thing.) which is composed of people they care for and who care for them. Humans are social animals, the first phase of a zombie apocalypse would consist solely of rejoining these people you care for.

The only people that would be alone à la DayZ would be the ones who already have lost all their relatives and acquaintances and have nobody to team up with. And it is very likely that unless they were psychologically fragile and already snapped (Which would rather result in a suicide than in an AS50 killing spree.) they will look for other people who survived so they can communicate with them and discuss the situation and their feelings.

The base setting of DayZ isn't compatible with a real life scenario.

Just think if there are perhaps 600,000 unique individuals who have played this game... and a guestimate in the US says there are 1 murders per 11,000 population - which we lazily extrapolate to include all global nationalities playing...

then that's potentially 54.5 actual RL murderers who have played DayZ - not factoring in serial killers.

ho hum
