using a mic with DayZ

Recommended Posts

Guys,

Silly question but does the game automatically support my mic?

When I press the push to talk button the mic sign comes up on my screen. But there is no level indicator to show sound is actually being transmitted.

Do I have to connect to the servers teamspeak to be heard or is it done throught then game/server?

Checked everywhere for a thread on this, could not find one.

It should automatically pick it up.

The game transmitts your voice. There is no need to join a Mumble, Teamspeak server or something else.

There is DEFINITELY a need if you want to play with friends. Unless you want to run in circles and HOPE you meet them. lol

IMHO, Teamspeak/mumble/vent detracts from the experience. Same as using online maps...yeah it is alot easier, but once you learn to avoid using them, it adds greatly to the "game".

Thought i am still crossing my fingers for a ingame radio system.

I advise you using a third party voice software, mumble, teamspeak, raidcall, skype, whatever. This gives you enormous advantage when playing in group.

Be careful with using ingame voice. It attracts zombies when you talk!

Alt-f4'ing gives you a massive advantage too, server hopping give you a advantage, reloging to refill magazines gave you a great advantage, hacking gives you a great advantage, running the incorrect Dayz files gives you a advantage, hoarding vehicles outside the map gave you a massive advantage, playing on the lowest possible graphics settings gives you an advantage.

BUUUUUUHHHHTTT, doesn't mean I can recommend doing it (any of it).

And to anyone thinking about the "well everyone else is doing it"...did your mother not teach you, that just because everyone else is jumping off a bridge, doesn't mean you should do it too.

Also I would like to make it clear, that I do not mind VoIP in any other game, but in DayZ it just feels wrong. But still, it is all personal preference... I suppose.

For the in game communication to work, you also need to be within a set distance from the person you wish to speak to. It's not very far at all, so be careful when approaching people.

Thanks for the advise guys. Think I'm just gona use the in game system. Theres something about only being able to communicate with people you are actually near that makes the immersion even deeper. The main thing for me is that I can tell people I'm near that i'm not gona shoot them!!! whether they believe me or not is another issue!!!

There is also a known bug that causes Direct Chat to malfunction some times. I hope they can track it down and fix it, as i'm sure it casues a lot of confusion.

In order to talk to people in game do I have to be in the Direct Chat Channel? If so, how do I select it. I've bound the keys in controls options but it doesn't seem to select the correct channel.

Yes, use Direct Channel. The keys are "," comma and "." Fullstop.

Once the Chat Dialogue is open you can also use the Cursor keys to change channel.

Is using an integrated notebook microphone any different? Do I have to turn it on somehow?
