ImSorryWinchesterGuy 5 Posted July 18, 2012 This is my experience after killing a particular survivor. But, first, let me contextualize my story. I started playing when KoS was already mainstreaming everywhere. So it didn’t take long for me to learn how to behave myself when seeing other survivors. Since then, most people who were unfortunate enough to be on my sight and act like a threat ended up respawning some seconds later. No remorse at all. However, yesterday I did something different. I was playing with 3 buddies who wouldn’t think twice before shooting anything that moves just cause it’s fun. We were looting Cherno. Apartments, hospital and then firehouse. When we got to this last place, one of the guys on my group said he would be AFK for a couple of minutes. Everybody went inside the firehouse and closed the doors. And just waited. The AFK guy comes back and says “I’m going to get *something here* on the other side of the town (Cherno)”. Even before reaching the red door we had just closed, it opens and a freshly respawned survivor is standing there, outside, holding a Winchester, if I recall. He was the one who opened the door, actually. My group was a little bit into a conversation and I was the only one who actually noticed that the guy outside wasn’t one of us. Our teammate, who was getting out by the very same door DIDN’T NOTICE him as a stranger. Just passed by him, thinking he was one of us!I say “There’s someone there!” (on Skype). The Winchester guy suddenly moves back and around the door, to get cover, but the guy who passed by him (and didn’t notice at first) was already there, behind him. He turned around and finally saw a guy holding a Winchester. The other guy and I go outside and we see two guys, one being the Winchester guy and the other our teammate. The Winchester guy says in voice chat three times “Friendly! Please don’t kill me!”. By his voice, I could tell he was a kid around 12 or 13. My friend, who just got out of the building along with me can’t distinguish between who is the “bad” guy and who’s our other friend. As we had grouped up like 30 minutes before this all happened, we were not aware of the weapons each one was carrying. Also, we had just looted a lot of places and changed weapons. So my teammate couldn’t recognize his own group by their weapons. My teammate, who just got outside, got a little anxious and shot. The wrong guy. He shot two bursts of his AK74 Kobra at his on team. Thinking now, that was hilarious.Anyway, the kid, in panic after seeing a murder just in front of him and knowing that something bad would happen if he stays just standing there, sprint away from the dead body of my teammate. When I first saw that Winchester guy, right when he opened the firehouse door, I was sure I should kill him. He was wielding a gun, which represents risk to me. After all the mess that happened outside the building, I still had this thought on my mind: “this guy may sound OK, but I’m not waiting to see what will happen if I let him live. He may just go around the block and kill us all.”I ran to the street and, as he runs away from us, aim at his back with my Lee Einfield. He’s not very far away, just about 10 to 15 meters. For some reason, he had his voice chat toggled on. And as he runs, I can hear “Oh, God. Oh, God.”. He was really nervous. With the abovementioned thought in mind, I shot him.During that night, I played normally. The guy in our group who was killed by his teammate ran back to his body and recovered his stuff. We went to Stary to loot. Then to the airfield. After that session, I really started thinking about what I had done that night. And even though it’s just a game, by the way that kid sounded when saying “Please don’t kill me!”, I felt really bad for that. Conclusion: I’ll keep shooting when I consider myself at risk. But only in these cases. Maybe what happened was the outcome of a messed up situation, involving friendly fire and some yelling on Skype. I certainly wouldn’t shoot if I was playing alone and the conversation started with “Friendly!”.When I killed that survivor, I remembered my first time playing this game. And I think the same bad lesson I got from other players at the beginning was the one I gave the Winchester guy that day: shoot on sight.I’m not trying to make people rethink their lives in hope they’ll be gentlemen ingame and quit KoS. Actually, I like to be surrounded by bad guys who I can shoot without guilt. Unfortunately, I shot the wrong guy after a situation that led to a bad decision. For the Winchester guy.
