TyGuy (DayZ) 0 Posted July 18, 2012 There is obviously nothing more demoralizing than getting sniped from hundred of yards a way (good shot BTW), and losing days worth of gear you collected. That being said, is there anything against joining a low pop server to regather your gear from the big cities, and then rejoining a more populated server? Koozer 9 Posted July 18, 2012 it's probably frowned upon but no-one can stop you from doing it.
Deviant (DayZ) 43 Posted July 18, 2012 It's not frowned upon. You join a large player server to find lots of people. You find a not so populated server to not find lots of people. You aren't "Cheating" in any way. And nowhere is totally safe.
Bunster 7 Posted July 18, 2012 If you wanna get the gear without the hassle then go for it but i think it takes away a bit of the realism but theres no shame in it, its your game play how you wanna
deviantdigi 22 Posted July 18, 2012 I don't give two shits, aslong as you don't spawn back behind me :P
KrystoferRobin 67 Posted July 18, 2012 i stuck to very low populations for a few days to get used to the movement, weapons, zeds without the additional worry of the players. Once I had a decent feel for the predictable things, I moved back to a big population, local server. Only thing I brought with me was a revolver and some meat, so I felt no shame in it. Josh225 129 Posted July 18, 2012 Here's what i think.Want to join a low pop server and get gear? Why the hell not, if that's what you would like to do do it. Personally i think that 50 players for a server is far far too many, i would like a server with a 30 player cap, because with 50 it's just too hectic for me. Bear in mind i'm not even talking about Cherno or Electro, i just run into far too many people in the most random places lol.
Kurmuh 6 Posted July 18, 2012 it's probably frowned upon but no-one can stop you from doing it.Lol you moron. Smart thing to do is join a server with 20- people in order to get loot. Anything higher than that will mean tin cans for you. (Most cases)
s.taylor.75@gmail.com 23 Posted July 18, 2012 Nothing against it, just know that most people have the same idea on low pop servers, so don't be surprised to find a lot of tin cans or run into other players.
[Gen]Adzic 241 Posted July 18, 2012 I went into a server with 8 people in it last night.. went to Balota Airfield for a deer stand raid for what I assumed would be a peaceful affair and ended up murdering 3 people within minutes of each other.I mean 4 deer stands and an Airfield so close to each other.. going there now is worse than going to the NW Airfield lol
mrducky (DayZ) 33 Posted July 18, 2012 Totally okay to loot low pop servers. If its a valid server and few others bothers to join there, then heck, it ain't your fault. As long as you stay on that server for a sensible time and don't just constantly hop in and out from server to another low pop server, etc.Its rather easy to notice sometimes when on a really really low pop server, with just a few guys, that some of the other players come in and go at regular intervals - I can only imagine they are server hopping / farming on low pop servers to loot the NWA or something. If that's the case, it's just lame.Or possibly they are looting the low pop server, and then going to store that loot to their tents on some other populated server - and then rinse and repeat. Kinda lame too, but at least that's somewhat accetable compared to just constant server hopping at to some high end loot position.Just remember that getting too careless because you think no-one is there might get you killed. I've died several times on low pop servers too. :)

If you are getting started AVOID the big cities at all costs. Use a map (downloaded or on screen in background) to navigate with contours and landmarks...find a less busy city with a supermarket etc and get your stuff there. Big cities will ALWAYS be dangerous, even on low population servers.
PkStormx 23 Posted July 19, 2012 (edited) I was playing a low pop server today, and hit stary sobor for the fun of it. found a group of 3 there (The only other 3 on the server) and proceeded to shoot on sight.got 3 extra pairs of NVG's, 2xAS50's, 1xM107, 3xGPS, 1xFN FAL ANPV S4, 2xL85A2, and just some random medical equipment n such.At the time i only grabbed the tools, and the FN FAL, then spotted their UAZ with more goodies in it, then put the rest of their stuff into it.i think i should play low pop more often :PBTW this is by far the best loot i've ever gotten! Also i dont see anything wrong with playing on a low pop server, if you have some NVG's then you are safer at night, then at daytime Edited July 19, 2012 by PkStormx
