Weapons & Chernarus

So I am 100% sure that I am not the only one that was struck by the fact that there is an incredible number of US/NATO fire arms in a post-Soviet (assuming Chernarus has not been a free state for a long period of time) state.

I think that it would add to the realistic feel of the game if there were more Russian weapons and scopes implemented into the game - stuff such as the many AK variants with the PSO scopes etc... There would still be room for U.S arms, but they would be much rarer and of higher value due to different optics/attachments.

This also applies to the handguns and sniper rifles, instead of M9SD there could be the ever elusive Makarov SD.

Anyhow that's just me being a little gun freak :)

By the way, this is what Rocket & CO have to chose from - it's quite an arsenal if you ask me :)

Hello there

I think IMHO (as I believe has been stated before) that mil spec weapons should be a little more rare compared to standard hunting rifles, and indeed should be of mainly Eastern Bloc origin.

But that would annoy those who love the Western weapons.

Contradictingly, I find the exclusion of any weapon against the "sandbox" ethos of arma, if not dayz.

Im a confusing person.

One of the things I always loved about Arma is the weapon variety and attention to detail in their behaviour. So yes, I agree with your post. More weapons please! Or even variations such as scopes ect. As you point out it's already there in the files.

I would like to see the AKs with the GP25 launcher etc, I think there SHOULD be Western weapons in game, but they should only be obtainable from the Crashed Heli sites - which are the US heli crash sites.

Forgot to add, I think that the vehicles in the game should be almost exclusively Russian too, the good old Huey should be replaced by MI-26 or something similar :)

It would be interesting to see more Russian weapons in the game but in some cases this is just a change of skins.

Yeah, but as you can see some Russian AKs are chambered in 5.45 whilst others in 7.62. There would be little difference in physical apperance but the gun would use different ammo, so it would sound and behave differently.

There are however many more weapons not implemented, for example the VSS or the SAIGA...

I belive that the reason for the huge amount of NATO weaponry is because this probably takes place after Operation Harvest Red Which would also explain the amount of burnt out Humvees.

However I agree that more weapons would be great. I'd love it if they would ad more civilian type weapons and AK variants (VSS would be sweet but probably a bit OP).

VSS OP? Hehe, no way! It's chambered in 9mm so the amount of damage it would do to a player would be equal to the PP19 or MP5A6SD :)

OT, it could be after Harvest Red, but we do not know, that would of course explain the large amount of US stuff on the map, however I am unsure whether those were just stock entities on the map when Rocket decided to use Chernarus - mind you removing all of them would be a PAIN

More guns = better. I have no problem with NATO guns being more rare but just heli spawns would be bad IMO. Fact is NATO forces are even in russia for joint ops and all kinds of things. Those guns would be found lots of places. Add more guns adjust spawn rates to compensate but IMO do not change spawn locations.

Yeah, the heli crash idea was a little bit extreme, but I was trying to stick to a "realistic" explenation.

I am unsure whether there are any combined ops, since Russia is not a NATO member as you must know...

This is already implemented, as par example AKM uses 7,62, while AK-74 only 5,45

Why just not to add the whole weapon pool that already exists in the game FFS?

I suppose you would have quite problem with finding ammo to particular gun with such variety

Yeah I know mate, but I think he meant that the AKM and AK74 have similar models and I pointed out they were chambered in different caliber

Ah, i see... However even that isnt true, every gun has its own model.

They're stock Arma 2 items (found in the editor) but they are not automatically in game. 99.9% of the trash, wreckages, and makeshift barricades were added to the map by Rocket. To be fair, the amount of vehicle wrecks available are pretty limited. For instance, in terms of military ground vehicle wrecks, there's a Humvee, UAZ, Ural, BRDM, BMP, and T-72 with the turret popped off. Wrecks of any vehicle in the game COULD theoretically be added, but they wouldn't look as good and would be more strenuous on the programming.

I am all for more weapons. Also @FrostDMG the VSS is 9x39 not 9x19 the rounds are quite a bit larger then the mp5s, in fact they are larger than the rounds in the AKM.

The VSS doesn't use the normal 9x19/9x18mm it uses a much larger 9x39mm round which has an effective lethal range up to 400m and an armor penetration of up to 10mm of steel. The round is also made to tumble when it hits a target making it extreamly deadly to lightly armoured targets. It's a small scale marksman rifle with next to no sound and no mussle flash. So it is quite powerfull in a scenario such as this.
