hey,

id suggest to remove thermal weapons.

they make the game WAY to easy, u can not NOT see players with those things. usually when u sit somewhere overlooking something u allways feel like u might have missed someone. with a thermal you just do a 360 and if u didnt see anyone then no one is there.

and yea, i do understand, some here on the forums want more distinguishable weapons. i do understand the L85A2 AWS is quite rare. esp. since one of the recent patches removed it from peoples hands due to a bug. i lost mine this way. but i think now it does spawn again.

imagine 2 squads engaging each other, both having thermals at their hands. fucking boring. so my suggestion: take out easy mode thermals.

Tell me if i'm wrong but i believe there is no thermal equipments in DayZ. If you got one, someone hacked it in, it's part of the regular OA weapons but should never spawn in dayZ

L85 AWS spawns on chopper crashes, it is not hacked in.

Having used one for around a month I'd agree that they should be removed, it makes it far too easy to spot players at long ranges and made it impossible for anyone to sneak up on me, especially since several of the people in our group had/have them. It nullifies the effectiveness of moving slowly or wearing camo and trying to hide.

The L85 has a thermal scope.

To the OP, if you feel the L85 is "OP" then I suggest you go find one and put it's "P" to good use.

I also invite you to look at me through the scope. The muzzle flash from my saw will look pretty on the thermal right before I tear you in half at the torso like piece of soft licorice.

Okay? That's kind of arbitrary. Sounds like an interesting battle to me.

The L85 doesn't have long range, and it's power doesn't compare to some other weapons. It's a good scouting tool but it's not going to win a battle. There are plenty of weapons that out-range it and plenty more that have more power.

It's really not a problem.

OP is just a little scared, that's all.

It nullifies the effectiveness of moving slowly or wearing camo and trying to hide.

It also nullifies snipers sitting in the tree line waiting for you to step out of your cover.

In other words it is an effective counter-measure against many common tactics in the game.

Exactly the sort of equipment a tactical game needs.

"It's powerful, take it out!" is such a vapid argument. Where does it end? We will all be throwing rocks and spitting at each other when you're done.

thermal will be OP when I can rend the gorram L85 to bits and stick the thermal on my mk48

until then it's a great telescope, but it takes up a lot of room

for clarity:

5.56 NATO has turrible stopping power in ARMA (I myself was hit six times at 200m by an m4 and ran off with 2600 blood)

at 800m (the kind of range that scope's intense zoom is practical at) it takes three or four body shots to kill using 7.62, which has nearly twice the energy out the muzzle - at 800m it'll be closer to thrice

then there's the muzzle lift - the L85's jump is huge, and made worse by that mad zoom

as ZDB said, it's a scouting tool, let the M107 take the shot

then you say that the L85s shooting power/range is crap compared to other weapons, just before you qualify that statement by saying its a good scouting tool. you should have said its the best.

in a 5v5 it does the fact that the L85 gets outperformed in range and power by other weapons. if one of your team has it it is as if there where giant big arrows pointing at every enemy because the scout with the L85 can see everyone and give their position to the snipers.

next in ur silly argumentation you go back to flaming me telling me i was scared. wtf is wrong with you. this discussion is about the L85. this weapon removes almost EVERY ascpect of fear from the game because if your team has a L85 they see every enemy around. i am the one wanting it to get removed you want to keep it. so how am I scared? i had one till it disappeared from my hands when logging in. i will have one again if they do not remove it.

binocs are enough to scout snipers. thermals on the other hand are easymode and do not fit the concept of DayZ. if people like you want easymode, fine, make special servers for you and others and remove the L85 from all others.

Oh, relax sweety. So dramatic. I was simply illustrating via a colorful story that just seeing me isn't going to win a battle. There are considerations beyond optics that determine how powerful or useful a weapon is in a battle.

No, I didn't say "crap." I said it was out-ranged and out-powered by other weapons. Which is true. That's not up for debate: it has a 300m effective range and moderate power.

No, it doesn't. The L85 doesn't penetrate walls or thick foliage. If you can see a player with the L85 then you can almost always see them with binoculars or a rifle scope. With the exception of ghillie snipers prone in weeds! Imagine that.

The L85 has a damage rating of 3555 points. It's matched by 11 weapons in the mod, and outclassed by 21 others.

Now, I can understand how having an L85 and a rifle together could be OP. But are you going to strip the weapon from every other player in the game simply because a minority of players like to think tactically?

I had a thermal gun once and i have been playing for 2 months now. Do you see my point they are so rare that it does not matter to much. Besides it not as tho there are thermal snipers, now that would be OP, the thermal gun has an effective range of only like 200 meters and is ment to be used at about 50. Its hard to aim with a slight with zoom at 50 meters it is not that op soo ya thats my speech lol hoped it liked it.

I was glad to when I heard that it had been removed, it just makes it too easy to locate anyone within view range.

Then yesterday I came across a crash with this weapon again. Made me a little sad :(

Of course I picked it up though. Playing as a lone sniper there really isnt anything better to fill 10 slots in the backpack then with this gun. You dont even ned to carry ammo for it, just need that scope.

Agree, get rid of thermo sighting altogether. I also think NVGs should be gone but ofcourse thats another subject.

I just feel that night games would be fun knowing that no one has an OP NVG or thermo and that for lighting people need to use flashlights, fires, flares, and glowsticks.

The scope needs to go, seems like 50% have them on my server and the rest have as50's or 107's, gear is being duplicated, intentional or not, gear is being spawned in by hackers, l85 is everywhere.

After using this weapon for some time I don't see a reason for keeping it in the game, it gives people easy mode and thats not what dayz was supposed to be about.

ps: Stop talking about Realism and shit , arma2/Dayz is far far away from beiing realistc.Infact too much Realism kills Gameplay, and its still only a game ....

This gun is OP in DayZ. Its OP in regular ARMA when playing against other players in warfare or other PvP modes. It has no place in DayZ.

And all the idiots saying the gun is inaccurate and has terrible power have probably never used it properly. Out to 300m this gun is spot on, its not a sniper or battle rifle so quit taking 500+ meter shots. It is pretty much the M16 ACOG but thermal zoom. It needs to be removed, it takes away the whole point of stealth and paying attention to your surrondings. All you have to do is right click and sweep an area and you know where any players are. Not fun.
