Question about water

Just a quick question: What happens if you completely run out of food/ water? Do you die or loose health? Also how red can the meter get? I lost my canteen due to the backpack disappearing on me.

If you run out of food or water you start to lose health after your hunger and thirst meters blink for a bit.

Do not eat or drink until your meters are blinking red (even if they're really dark red).

Anyhoo, what happened now is I had to respawn since I lost absolutely everything of value after swimming to fill a newly found canteen. I respawned with way more than I had then so that's a plus. Thanks for the help though, helps to know the actual limits.

Yeah, don't swim to fill your cantine. If you HAVE to swim, drop your stuff on the ground, swim into the water, fill, and then get your stuff again.

Not all of it. I think it just your backpack and maybe the gun you don't have equipped when you swim out. That's what I lost when I made that mistake the first time, my backpack and my primary both were on my back.

You drop all your stuff in while swimming only when you've used up all your stamina. Rest before swimming and you wont have any problems.

Only possible by the coast or at various wells.

It is possible, but you need to swim in pond.

Only go in about waist deep. That will keep you from losing your stuff

Yeah you need to swim for ponds only. Right now all water wells and pumps work so just use the action menu and you can fill your canteen there. Drop all your gear before swimming as a precaution.

You no longer have to go into swimming animation to fill canteens in ponds. Just go into a shallow bit and right-click your empty canteen in the gear menu.
