Oscarias 54 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) It was my third life and after two terrible starts I felt I was doing quite well. Had an AK, couple of mags, some food and drink, life was good. I was pushing North when the tower came into view and I remember thinking that looks really cool, have to check it out. I pull up my map and noticed there are two tree stands on the north side so my plan was to circle the edge of the forest, hit the two tree stands and go check out the tower. At this point I had never heard of green mountain or its infamous reputation.So I am skirting the edge of the forest about 50 yds in, keeping a sharp eye out for the first tree stand when all of sudden came this sound booming through my speakers. It sounded like someone was bashing a thin metal panel with a crow bar or something. Scared the shit out of me, i dropped to the ground, froze and waited. Then it came again this time three times in a row, BASH BASH BASH then silence. I didn't move an inch, just sat there trying to figure out what could possibly be making that sound. I had no answers, the only thing I could think of that could make that sound was if someone was smacking the side of one of those steel warehouses. But, that made no sense because there were no buildings anywhere near me. So, my second theory was that perhaps there is a player nearby fucking with me.So after about ten minutes or so of hearing nothing further and seeing even less I decided to move out toward the first tree stand. I looted it and then the second without incident but this whole time I just have this funny uneasy feeling. I simply chalked it up to being a newb (even more so then I am now lol) and decided to carry on with my plan to head to the tower.The further I went up that mountain the more the dread grew inside me that this was a bad idea. I haven't experienced this type of feeling in a game since the first time I played silent hill but this was different. So, to say I cautiously approached the compound would be an understatement. Not a single living zed outside but I could hear some moaning inside and of course the drone of the fly's. The fly's freaked me out because at this point in my DayZ experience I only associated flies with dead player bodies. That alone gave me pause to enter thinking a sniper is just waiting for me to enter the compound. When I came upon the pile of corpses I was like WTF? After alluding a couple of Zs i climbed the tower, found a hatchet and was enjoying the view. From way up there the dread I was feeling on the ground was quickly dissipating. I was enjoying the view and plotting where I should head next, drank a coke and climbed down feeling good about everything.Just as I exit the tower I hear BASH BASH BASH! That same dam sound. In a mili second I went from care free to petrified. I ran to the cover of the shed in the compound near the pile of bodies, went prone covering the entrance and waited. All remained quite for sometime but I remained. I was convinced it had to be a player messing with me and any second he was going to round that corner looking for me. After laying there for sometime I was beginning to feel a little silly and decided to get up and make my way toward the exit and the get the fuck out of there. All of sudden a huge explosion goes off, like an artillery round had landed nearby. Holy crap, I dropped to the ground trying to figure what is going on and what to do and then bam another explosion followed by another. Now, even though it was only my third life I had spent a little time playing arma. I know what a hand grenade and a grenade launcher sound like in this game and this was neither of the two.So there I was deciding should I leave cover and run for it or stand my ground and wait it out. While all kind of thoughts were running through my head as what this could be the only logical thing that I kept returning too was another player. So i figured I would wait for him or them to enter the compound looking for my fragged body and I would get the drop on them instead of running out into a trap like a scared little girl. At least 15 minutes go by and all is quiet. Every minute that ticked by the more I was becoming that scarred little girl.Finally I decide enough is enough, time to get the fuck out of here. I cautiously make my way toward the exit seeing and hearing nothing. I was just getting ready to make a dash across the road and into the forest when I hear BASH BASH, only twice this time. And I swear before the second "Bash" ended I was already full sprint getting the hell out of there. I didn't stop running till I was clear of the forest.I have yet to hear that "bashing" sound again nor have I experienced any unexplained explosions for that matter since that time on Geen Mountain. This game has a great ability to mess with your mind sometimes but this was really quite an extraordinary experience. Needless to say I have not been back to that Mountain since and it will be a long time till I return alone. Oh, and I am never going at night under any circumstances, fuck that lol. "Fuckit, only live once". We cleared that place out, stocked up on oodles of fantastic loots and were quite satisfied with ourselves... until we damn near lost it in the northernmost barrack. There's a damn bench jamed inside the first bit of the walkway making it really a bitch to get in, one friend died right there, couldn't get over the bench. I dove into the shower instead of trying to step over it. we manage to finally kill off the hoard, and a server jumping asshat pops in right behind my friend, tags him in the head with a .50 at near-point blank, but has no idea i'm still in the john. So i wait. Patiently. He loots and loots and loots.... then goes to step over the bench and gets a face full of M16, but alt-f4's before I can score the kill. What a dick.What does this have to do with green mountain you ask?I had myself a map and a compass. I had a fully stocked alice pack, 5 1/2 mags for my m16, 6 mags for my 1911, damn near everything I could ask for besides a GPS and NVG's, so rather than wait for this server jumper to come back and flank me, I got the fuck out, and headed generally south. Full sprint all the way. Hauling ass. friends spawn way the hell down in BFE coast land so figure we'll all meet at the little airfield there, might get lucky. As I'm running through some fairly dense forest, I spot this MASSIVE spire, looked to me like an ICBM or something "whoa, wtf is that" so I head for it, not too far off course... finally climb that hill and see it's a radio tower of some sort. pick off a couple walkers, wade through a massive stack of corpses and go inside the tower, head up the ladder.Get up top, check out the rung ladder that you can't actually climb (or at least, i couldn't figure it out), have a look out on the catwalk and enjoy the nice view. I come back inside the door and can hear someone coming up... FFS... prone.. iron sights up on the ladder rungs waiting for a head to pop up... guy climbs up, only has a hatchet on his back so I hold off putting him down just yet, turns around and my skype breaks it's silence "OH SHIT TELL ME THIS IS YOU IN THIS TOWER". Somehow my 2 freshly spawned friends had made it to the very same tower just minutes on my heels, without any guidance or even mention of our locations. I'm still unsure how the hell they got there so fast from kamenka. I was quite literally running at a full sprint from the airfield, almost straight to the tower, only slowing in places too steep to proceed at a full run.But that's my spooky story of Green Mountain. Somehow, without any word of my location, theirs, or otherwise, we all three ended up there within minutes of each other.As my friends and i were heading down to log off at the tower, we get a few zeds coming down the ladder from above us, we haul ass out and put them down. Spectorials 7 Posted July 17, 2012 Myself and 3 friends went here in search of a vehicle... it almost ended all of our lives.This was just at the start of the 1.7.2 patch and were the first Zs we encountered. We opened the front gate cautiously and immediately we had 8-12 Zs on us. We ran back to the main road leading up to green mountain and proceeded to down the Zs. After they were all down, a second lot seemed to come from within. We kept firing, almost everyone was bleeding and about half life... then a third wave spawned. Instead of fleeing from the site we decided to run into the jaws of the beast, to the main tower. One of our heroic comrades stood in the doorway with his axe out and killed the Zs as they single filed towards him.Zs kept spawning but we managed to secure the area and have a look around. Not a single fucking loot spawn, nor any vehicle in site.We left green mountain running for our lives, out of ammunition, low on blood and without a vehicle.We will never speak of this place again.
