Spike Strips

Recommended Posts

Ok so recently bear traps were added to the game and I thought that was a really cool idea however I think that Rocket should add spike strips. These would be very helpful to help stop bandit parties who just drive around in their cars and kill people and would give other people a chance to defend themselves. It would also make players more cautious and careful when driving around instead of them just going crazy.

How would spike strips be implemented into the game?

- These could be very rare respawns that have a %10 chance of finding and can be found in police stations or at army facilities or in apartments.

- This would also take up 3 slots in a bag.

- A player can only put down 1 at a time. If he/she tries to put down a 2nd then the first one they put down with be deleted off the map.

- Only the player that laid down the spike strip can pick it up. (Like a tent.)

Pros?

- Other players can defend themselves against groups of bandits with vehicles.

- It would slow down the rate of people using cars often and driving around as if they are untouchable.

- More players would drive around carefully.

Cons?

- Large groups of survivors might obtain many spike strips and put them down across the map.

- Could be buggy when they first get released. (If they do get released.)

Most guns in the game beat up cars and the people inside of them up big time as it is. Add to that that you can hear a car from far away and that they are far more visible, less flexible and very fragile (hit a tire, the engine or the driver) I don't see how vehicles can be so much of a threat to you. Long before they can even see you, you can hide or prepare to ambush them.

While I agree that vehicles are rare and fragile enough to not really need any more balancing, this would be a really neat addition.

I'd certainly keep spare tires in the vehicle though.

would be a good idea but it would end up being like the fencing and tank trap problem with have now

Yes but it not many players are all geared out and have good guns to take down a car. If a player only has a winchester then they won't take down a car unless they are right next to the road and that leaves the player vulnerable to zombies and other players. Also usually players store their items inside a vehicle so it would be more efficient to use a spike strip and make the car immobilized then to shoot it up and risk blowing the car and the items up.

It wouldn't be a problem because a player can only place 1 spike strip at a time. The only problem would be if a large group of survivors puts down many. But the spike strips would be very rare to obtain so it would take a while for a group to obtain them.

I wasn't trying to nail down the suggestion, just the part where you felt so threatened by time surprised me. I do think there have to be more systems in place that cause vehicle owner swaps to occur more often.

This game or at least some players seem to want to play DayZ in the wrong ways...i can count the numbers of posts involving adding features that are actually more useful for survival in an society downfall or at least make it less annoying for players...what i can't count are posts where more weapons or objects that can be used as weapons are suggested.

Why isn't there a post like: "Need plants so i can build my own little farm in order to survive." ? If the game goes on having the minor things addressed, major flaws ignored and the community not straightened up this game will never make it to the shelves. Rocket has given players freedom, yes. But he also has to set boundaries or everything get's out of control.

It's ok as an idea but the problem is that every road will soon become one massive spike strip.

Farming has been suggested many times before I believe but you need to realize it would take a month ATLEAST for a plant to grow enough to eat. And being able to program farming in the game would take a very long time. And to add realistic farming such as the need for sun light, water, and good soil...probably won't be added any time soon if it gets added at all that is...

Barb wire fence can be used to trap car's very easily.

True but a player can easily see a barb wire fence from a distance and can easily avoid it by driving around or just removing it themselves if they have the necessary items to. As for a spike strip, it can't be removed by another player and is much harder to see especially when driving fast. And by the time a car sees the spike strip in front of them it will already be too late and their car's tires will be done for.

Though I don't really care much for the idea. I would <3 to see the reactions of hitting a spike strip.
