People are bandits because there is absolutely no reason not to. Better chances of survival, better loot and you can shoot people for fun. Shooting people on sight is the supported playstyle. Free For All Deathmatch Unless You Know The Guy is the gamemode of dayz, not a "particular playstyle to choose".

Something should be added to the game to make people think "should I kill that guy or walk away?" and another thing to make people think "Should I stay away from that guy or should I try to team up with him?" Nobody asks these now (unless it's your first day), you see someone you shoot him.

I The problem is most survivors dont get a chance to defend themselves properly. If someone is busy looting a farm and your headed the other direction, dont shoot. just gtfo.

Well I would wander on by... I'm sure a few other players would too. But how would you know? You could have been spotted 10-20 times without your knowledge and not caught a bullet to the back of the head. But since nothing happens - you trundle along quite happily.

When something DOES happen... It's nothing but frustration.

Death itself is a punishment. A punishment for being careless, naive, or just plain stupid. It's literally a case of wise-up or die... I wouldn't have it any other way, even though the odd player acts in a psychopathic manner. I mean, I know the folk I play with are too trigger happy when it comes to meeting other players, their mentality being 'these folk will bite us in the arse later if we don't deal with them now' ....

While I don't like their kos mentality, I do follow the same train of thought now. I've given players countless opportunities to leave with their lives - them pleading 'don't shoot! Don't SHOOT!'.

More fool me, I catch a bullet to the back of the head, my gear looted.

Damn I was naive.

That's the beauty of this game... If you don't like it - there's Dead Island, STALKER, Left4Dead... All of which are nicely balanced for the player - go play.

I'm all for bandits, but people that sit in the major cities killing freshly spawned players with scoped rifles really piss me off, Mainly just because they arn't killing to survive or in self defense or for gear, they just want to rack up a murder count on players that can barely fight back yet... I find it a waste of time honestly.

Lately, the forums have degenerated to a place for either one of these two things:

1. Complaints about bandits.

2. Complaints about posts pertaining to number 1 above.

Both posts are really preaching to the choir and beating the same dead horse. I doubt anyone to whom these posts apply to will listen to either post. It really makes me wonder why people bother wasting their time and energy.

Depends on the amount of times you are killed at the beginning of your spawn. But then again, if you're being killed multiple times before your character is 1 hour "old", you're obviously doing something incorrect. So yes, I agree.

I don't play as a bandit. I don't KOS. Nor do I think that bandits should be punished for their approach to DayZ. If players want to band together to deal with them, that's fine and makes sense within the constraints of the game.

But, I did make a suggestion over in the DayZ Urban legends thread that I think could add an interesting twist to the whole discussion.

Well, once upon a time I had to respawn cause of me being dead, spawned somewhere near Kamenka and was making ma way to Cherno for some good starter lootz.

There I was crawling near some Zed, when suddenly I hear that *shuffleshuffle* crawling noise behind be, so I stopped instantly, turned around and BAM there was a Guy right behind me, unarmed. He scared the shit out of me but as the last of the Friendleecans, I starter talking via VoIP

"Yo dude, you f*cking scared me"

"Wanna tag along?"

-No response-

I continued crawling with him right in my Ass, still talking to him, still no response.

Once I got past the Zeds I hovered my Crosshair ( ye regular server ) over him and the tag said "Man".

Right at this moment I shat ma Pants cause the only "Man" tags are usually Zeds on my map.

I started running like the Devil himself was chasing me, looking behind me ever few seconds, No sign of him.

"Phew, the fuck was dat"

When suddenly that "Man" was right behind me again.

I scare-quitted the Game in an instant.

Haven't done any research yet but geeeez pretty Legen...wait for it...dary.

It would also make a great game mechanism by which to freak out bandits as well! You can imagine it now, the more murders you commit, the greater the chance that you get visited by weird apparitions like this one! Actions and consequences.

Rocket also said that he would give survivors the "tools" to fight back against bandits. He hasn't. Right now survivors have absolutely no idea who is a bandit & who isn't. The "heartbeat" feature he added is garbage. I want to know if someone is a bandit 1500 yards away. If your running around killing people you need to have a different skin so survivors know to kill you on sight. "Well what happens when a survivor defends himself & he too becomes a bandit??" Simple, if a survivor kills a bandit, it doesn't count as a murder. If a bandit or survivor kills a survivor however, its murder.
