Bat (DayZ) 230 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) The whole point of the game is to find yourself goals because the game won't give you any. Here's my story through my multiples characters :- I started my first characters just surviving, I headed up all the way north, had lots of luck finding loot on dead players. Being extremely careful (I'm into roleplay) I survived one full week around NW airfield (didnt know it was dangerous back then lol) set up a tent I started fill with car parts- Then my dream was to repair a car by myself. It took me some weeks, but it's so good to think about logistic and stuff (what do I carry ? do I take one extra food? or that wheel?)- Found and repaired a car (UAZ) after something like a 3 weeks of playing. Many failed attempts (died countless times because I wasn't stealthy enough).- After that I lost my car really fast. But I went to another server, and could get another UAZ running in 10 hours. Lost it again after 30 minutes, sniped near devils castle :(- Then I teamed up with a guy asking for blood packs in cherno, and started playing multiplayer. We used steam to chat and we got a GAZ running fairly quick, and had the best play session of all time, a whole night driving from town to town, scavenging stuff, trying to repair a wheel after an accident, I saved my buddy's life 2 times and he saved mine too, he found a bicycle.- Then we got our hands on a UAZ and a motorbike for him, we tried setting a camp. It lasted 1 night but some guy with a heli must have found our vehicles with the cheated radar stuff.- We found a camp in the north and got our hands on nvgs, fn fal nv, all sorts of good loot. We made another camp and got a white pick up and quad. Then raided NW airfield (found myself a svd camo) had the most intense session ever. Had to snipe one unlucky guy in the barracks. On our way back some guy was trying to steal the pickup, my friend died, the guy disconected after I shot him with SVD trhough the window. A wheel was broken on the pickup. When I came back with a wheel, the car was already stolen ( there were many corpses all around, a guy with a wheel... A clan war for our pickup, that is cool :))- We then tried establishing a trading camp in kamenka, died countless time again, was fun too :)- after that I just came back to actual solo surviving, killing everyone on sight for safety reasons. I became a pretty good player, fast and aware of my environment, my weapon strentgh and weaknesses (CZ and AKM), and killed many players who should have been more careful. But every people I took down was a necessity. I now use direct chat a lot, trying to communicate, but people are just too paranoid and I HAVE to kill them, unfortunately.Hope it will give you clues on how to live your ingame lives.Edit : We also stumbled on some kind of peaceful beatnick comunity in the woods, they were driving around with a van and 2 buses and only carried lesser grade weapons, and never shot people. I stumbled on their camp by accident, and at the same time 2 guys on motorcycle came from nowhere, they were bandits trying to steal the camp. I took them down with my akm. I was thanked by the guys of the camp after I told the story on side channel. They helped me get my quad flipped on its wheels again, and gave me antibiotics. Was cool. peebeds 12 Posted July 17, 2012 Hopefully not thread-jacking, but in the same vein....I had my first real session last night. Id swum from one of the islands, so lost my pack and contents, but eventually followed the road (in the tree line) to the barn above the dam at Topolka and found a crossbow and a couple of bolts.....my first weapon!! Got attacked by zeds a bit later near Msta and bled out (no bandages!!)Rejoined in Wasteland, found a map in my first building, then a shotty in the next heading toward Elektro. Got myself into a barn near the power station and found another shotty, killed a few Zeds and am currently sat in there quivering like a girl 'cos I can hear more shots outside!Ive watched Sacriel and Squirrels video's and loads of others and the game seemed a bit lame and boring, but to be honest........ MAN ALIVE!!! ITS BRILLIANT!!!
horrgakx 11 Posted July 17, 2012 Lol congrats new guy, you just raided someones secret stash and nicked his car. Nice work for your first couple of days. :DLOL oops. Well it WAS in the middle of a road, looked like it had been abandoned. It didn't even occur to me to check the contents of the car.Which leads me to ask another question; So vehicles remain in the game, where you left them, for all to see when you quit the game? So, what happens when I log out and I was sitting in the car at the time?
sktrooper@hotmail.com 70 Posted July 17, 2012 I spent an hour crawling through a forest to the nearest hospital (Berezino) with a broken leg and 1k blood yesterday. The joy of finally seeing the distant outskirts of the city pop up through the trees is a joy I haven't felt in any game in such a long time (I think the last time may have been when I finally got past the tentacle thing in Half-Life's Blast Pit back in 1999).This game. It does things to you.
craft (DayZ) 51 Posted July 17, 2012 and the best part about that craft, is were probably happier about those beans than he was about his loot. diablo's just another day at the office.Hear hear. Diablo was fun, but compared to DayZ, it's popcorn. The feeling I got the first time I found a decent gun in DayZ far surpassed the feeling when I found yet another rare magical doohickey in Diablo. Miki (DayZ) 15 Posted July 17, 2012 Takes me about thirty minutes to find a firearm from a fresh spawn.
Venzire 76 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Each time you die... You'll learn from your mistakes and get better. I remember when I played during april way WAY back. I sucked so bad... Now! I'm a really good player and nearly impossible to find.Tip, trust no one. Edited July 17, 2012 by Venzire
ChinWooMan 34 Posted July 17, 2012 I tried out the game once in my friend's house and survived pretty damn well I say. I never died on that account. I survived for at least 2 hours.all you need to do is blend with nature be paranoid at all times and have your ears open. If you aren't paranoid you will get fucked by the back. iloveburritos 5 Posted July 17, 2012 I'm moving right along now. Have myself equipped with an AKM and 1911, an ALICE pack, map, and everything I need to survive in the woods for an extended period of time. I haven't even had to murder anyone (yet). Now I have to start planning out a rescue the vehicle op for some mobility, and start searching around for a few downed helis and I should be pretty set for serious raids. It's incredible how careful/paranoid you become over the course of a week or so playing this game. I went from sprinting everywhere to zig zagging across open fields or peeking around corners over and over before leaving cover to scouting out tree lines and locations for 10+ minutes before I even START to move. horrgakx 11 Posted July 18, 2012 Aaah!! I've got a problem now. I spawned where I left the other day (minus vehicle), turned the corner and ran straight into another player. I desperately tried to lower my gun (do some servers disable the double CTRL tap??) but he pumped me full of bullets.I died and assumed I would respawn next to the water with the all too familiar lack of supplies. But when I went back to a server I respawned exactly where I had fallen, low on blood, at the main airfield. Quickly I decided my best bet was to find some animals for their blood-replenishing meat so I set off east, my ultimate destination I decided would be a hospital. But the odds are against me; my vision is shaking and blurred so I'm relying on my hearing to locate threats but this is difficult with my heart thumping in my ears. I have to plan my route very carefully because I'm falling unconscious every few minutes and if I were to drop in the middle of fleeing from a hoard of Zeds I'd be helpless as they pulled me to pieces. In the middle of the wilderness, I've made it half way to the hospital now, surprisingly I've staggered about 3km's so far. I can only see the outline of trees and couldn't visually locate a cow even if it was standing in front of me. Darkness has enveloped me and I'm far from any settlements. It starts to rain. I might as well have plucked my eyeballs out for all the good they're doing me.I'm on an open plain in the wet darkness but stumbling around could be dangerous to I decide to hit the deck and quit the game. If I'm alive when I come back in a day or two and even if I can reach a town with a hospital getting to it is another matter. I'll rate my survival chances at under 10%.
peebeds 12 Posted July 18, 2012 So many people would just have quit and respawned. Have my Beans and Kudos to you for trying to make it!
