I actually had a situation after I spawned where a bandit on voice told me to leave all my stuff and get out, unluckily for him I had no stuff so I told him no and he either shot me or let me walk. I walked and no shots fired. THAT was such an intense moment and made the game for me. I would love to see more of this but at the moment its not safe to do as you get people DC or just shoot on sight and take the stuff... make it worthwhile robbing someone compared to shooting and looting

Like I said, more of that action.

I believe Banditry would work better if it was done in a grp of 2 or 3. I think someone would be more inclined to comply when the odds were stacked against them. If they alt-f4 out, so be it.

It is because the newbies started to get ballsy. I will only rob if I am in a team. Even then, it is almost not worth it to engage verbally. This is the wild west. Shoot first or be dead.

People who let themselves get robbed are stupid anyways. Better to at least try to kill them instead of just giving your stuff up. Even if you die, you were losing your stuff to the robber anyways. Either way, you're starting over to a degree. If it was a group mugging me, I'd at least try to take one of them out with me. Of course, this is if you aren't worried so much about your score (zombies killed, head shots, days lived, etc.).

I agree 100%, but the problem is people are already accustom to just leaving the game and coming back in to reposition and shoot whoever had them at gunpoint. They do it because they can get away with it. Keep in mind this is still a Alpha, and a mod to another game, exploits like that won't be fixed until it's a standalone game or in the end of alpha, early beta. (Although I hear they are working on it right now.) None the less I would do this if they have something I want, if not I let them be, and if they come to close I blast them. But until this exploit is fixed, people will not bring someone to gun point nor will they stop ghosting. You also have to put into consideration that some people (Not smart ones imo) play the game with no volume, or ignore the chat entirely, so if you tell a guy to put a gun down or type it in chat that person would pay no mind and become a possible threat. But like I said, this will not happen until exploits are gone. I honestly don't think people care anymore also due to the fact that you do not have a face to show your humanity anymore, humanity is still there, but if it's nonexistent to the eye it's nonexistent entirely.

If everyone is so heroic and will shoot before they die instead of being robbed -- I guess they shouldn't complain when they got shot on sight. I mean, if you're going to shoot at me when I'm robbing, why should I bother trying to rob you verbally? Bandits who rob are going the extra mile to give YOU EPIC HEROES a chance to live. You should be thanking them, because if they get in range to rob you, they could've killed you years ago. But that's ok, let everyone be the hero, it'll only promote more shooting on sight and less verbal exchanges.

Take for example the OP's post which linked my video. If the guy in the video tried to shoot at me and I killed him, it wouldn't be as good as a video. In fact, it would've been more boring and not as exciting. I could easily make videos of shooting people all day, but no one wants to see that. Dare to be different, people.

in case anybody is retarded, or didn't notice differences in video references, i changed the video. i made this thread before i learned about AceBane, and when i did learn about him, i quickly swapped out the old video for his. i salute you, acebane, for making this game INTERESTING.

The solution to Alt-F4 is fairly simple. Do it like they do on EvE Online - you can disconnect, but your character doesn't vanish right away in the game. Instead, it sits there for a minute and anything can happen to it. If that minute elapses without anything happening, no harm and you keep everything. If you try to disconnect when being targeted, you are a vulnerable scarecrow for 60 seconds and you can still be killed and looted. Next time you log in, it will be as a respawn.

I'm one of those kinds of people who plays the game it was designed and does not try to find holes in game mechanics. But it sounds like now, if you don't, you are voluntarily handicapping yourself. Now I know to try to quit next time I'm getting shot at. What a bunch of crap.

Wait, your saying we should be thankfull that we got robbed and made us out to be pussies in a virtual game? I bet dude that buckled in that video died to a PK minutes later and probably feels like a panzy to have obeyed such an asshole earlier. I would have equipped the gun he stole and shot him in the face with it. There is nothing good about what that guy did in that video. If they allow shit like that we should be able to grab the idiot by the throat and bitch slap em' for trying that!

I have yet to see someone rob someone on WoW

Ergo I submit that DayZ PvP is no different than every other PvP out there, KoS.

That's my speculation.

Also, guys, enough with the "let your character stay in for X seconds." I'm telling you, make it to the only way to safely DC is to use a toolbelt items called a sleeping bag. Give it a 20 second animation, make it a small vehicle or something, and make the character get in it before he can dissapear.

it's impossible because:

1- he would disconnect, if it is not a cod kiddie (and out there is plenty)

2- killing is easier and safer.

This two thing could be fixed, BUT this game has enough fanboys to convince it's perfect as it is.

In that vein, I love how the elitists would call this a "carebear" suggestion.

Things elitists have whined was "carebear" suggestions in the past:

Removal of ability to leave stuff outside the map barrier (claimed game was now dead)

Removal of starting gun (said we were making it easier on newbies by curbing coast DM)

Any hint of making bandit gameplay harder is seen as trying to make this game like L4D.

Honestly? Rocket needs to tell the elitists, hardcore fanboys to GTFO. This is why games aren't made for them anymore.

I think its rather interesting that one of the reasons people choose not to attempt a robbery is that the other person might shoot them back, especially in a world where there is a strong chance the other person is armed.

This is what gun rights advocates have been claiming for years - that muggers might think twice if they think their target is armed.

Obviously, you don't have the disconnect problem IRL, and I guess you could say it promotes a shoot first mentality. I just found the parallel interesting.

My fix is simple...

Shoot another player and suddenly no less than one thousand zombies spawn on top of you.

Problem solved.

Actually I have submitted many ideas as have others but bandits want to be free to kill as they please with no penalty so they troll and flame to no end about it. My real fix is also very simple.

The more players you murder who have no murders themselves the more visible and audible you are to zombies. After a couple of unwarranted murders you become so visible and audible to zombies that even crawling has no benefit to you. Zombies see you and chase you from farther distances. If you kill someone who has already killed someone else then you do not receive the penalty. Penalty for each murder should only last a set amount of time such as one or two hours. Each new murder compounds the effect and restarts the timer.

This leaves plenty of room for players to keep killing each other only now there is a penalty and no way to know if who you are about to kill will cause you to gain a murder or not. It also penalizes the murderer but not permanantly.

Banditry is dead. This much I can agree with. The people who are left aren't even bandits anymore. You can't spend more than ten seconds on these forums without hearing a story about how somebody killed somebody purely for fun or just because they were bored. People say they're bandits when in all actuality they're raiders, just murdering other players for fun. Which I can see how somebody would enjoy the pvp element of the game.

the thing is, this could still NOT work! for example, the other day, i was sneaking around elektro, when suddenly, gunshots. i ran and hid, then looked around. sure enough, some asshole with a makarov was behind the firestation shooting at me. so i take my 1911, and open fire. he dies, but if we used your solution, i would have been penalized. that kill was out of pure self defense. i even gave him time to reconsider. i said "stop shooting me, prick. i didn't do anything to you. if you want to murder people go back to COD" ....aaand they still kept shooting. so i killed them. that was my first kill, and i would like to not be penalized for something i didn't start.
