Unlock view distance (turn it down optional)

Recommended Posts

View distance is server side locked, at 1600. Being able to lower it, actually could help people to improve their fps. Seems like the engine renders everything, even long distance objects, and this is forcing cpu to work unnecessarily.

I'd love if rocket allowed us to modify this per-server, the problem is it can be argued that it would give players with better computers a higher advantage since they can see farther, which takes away from the "everyone is equal" realism of the game.

If you can't even play the game at 1600 view distance, you shouldn't be playing.

The cap is already EXTREMELY low compared to the max of 10000 in ArmA 2, why are you trying to make our games look worse just because your computer can't run it?

Not to mention there's tons of other video settings you can change for a performance increase before you even have to touch the view distance (which is ONE TENTH of the maximum).

I know people whit better computers would have an advantage, it's still optional wheter if you want to set it in 1600 or lower.

Im not saying that we need to lower view distance.. learn to read.. I'm saying that if you want to lower it, you should be able to.

Go away, chill, then come back.

Why is it capped at 1600? I know it is, I just want to know why? Anyone know?

Hello there

No, just no.

One assumes the view distance is capped at 1600 as a happy medium for overall playability and FPS on lesser machines. However, it would be nice to lower it for those plinking away on laptops etc, but you would be at a disadvantage.

But, whilst working on the game, R has to draw a line on the lowest common denominator on the spec of PC on which the game will run and can't implement tools to enable it to run on all systems. It's limited by the engine and the amount of time and effort it would take.

Could you explain a bit more, I mean if its the engine, how come ArmA 2 servers can play with the huge view distances without any trouble with 30+ people on them? Is it due to the zombies or something? And if it is, with them improving the zombies, will it be higher in the stand alone?
