Hyle 1 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) View distance is server side locked, at 1600. Being able to lower it, actually could help people to improve their fps. Seems like the engine renders everything, even long distance objects, and this is forcing cpu to work unnecessarily. Edited July 15, 2012 by Hyle
Guest Posted July 15, 2012 View distance is server side locked, at 1600. Lower ir is actually that could help people improve their fps. If i want to turn down my view distance why shouldn't be able to? Seems like the engine renders everything, even long distance objects, and this is forcing cpu to work unnecessarily.I'd love if rocket allowed us to modify this per-server, the problem is it can be argued that it would give players with better computers a higher advantage since they can see farther, which takes away from the "everyone is equal" realism of the game. Hyle 1 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) I know people whit better computers would have an advantage, it's still optional wheter if you want to set it in 1600 or lower. Edited July 15, 2012 by Hyle

I'm saying that if you want to lower it, you should be able to.

rooneye 135 Posted November 4, 2012 Why is it capped at 1600? I know it is, I just want to know why? Anyone know?
OrLoK 16186 Posted November 4, 2012 Hello thereIf you can't even play the game at 1600 view distance, you shouldn't be playing. No, just no.One assumes the view distance is capped at 1600 as a happy medium for overall playability and FPS on lesser machines. However, it would be nice to lower it for those plinking away on laptops etc, but you would be at a disadvantage. But, whilst working on the game, R has to draw a line on the lowest common denominator on the spec of PC on which the game will run and can't implement tools to enable it to run on all systems. It's limited by the engine and the amount of time and effort it would take.RgdsLoK

Is it due to the zombies or something? And if it is, with them improving the zombies, will it be higher in the stand alone?
