Billy restored my faith in players

So, I have been playing for a few weeks on and off and I have been PKed without warning or provocation several times. Kind of disappointing but I understand it is part of the game. It had been pretty frustating though and made me decide to adopt a shoot on sight philosophy.

So, I am looting the Balota airstrip and get mauled badly by Zombies. I manage to kill them but I am down to 2500 blood, gray, pulsing, out of focus vision. I considered respawning, but I had found an AKM, hatchet, hunting knife, and a Coyote Backup so I decide to try making the convenience store further north west. I make it after several hours of randomly passing out, crawling, and in general a miserable trip. I am looking for matches so I can go into the wilderness and kill some animals to get my blood back up. I am even more desperate not to lose this character as I have found a map, binoculars, entrenching tool, tool box, and watch on the journey.

No luck on the matches, I am going through the store and my heart sinks as I hear moaning, look towards the front door and I see, dimly and out of focus, several shambling Zeds approaching, already inside and locked in on me. Suddenly I hear over my speakers, "Friendly?" I type out "Yes, almost out of blood, can't see", suddenly the freshly arrived survivor opens fire. I, of course, assume he is lighting me up "4 teh lulz". I see the zeds drop and the new guy says "I have a blood pack for you, let me get it out of my backpack".

Still expecting a round to the head I stand my ground as he actually gives me a transfusion and doesn't shoot me afterwards.

We clear the rest of the store together, kill some zombies as they stumble in, and I find a Lee Enfield that he is looking for and tell him where it is. He identifies himself as "Billy" and I am already messaging him as my character/real name "Rick". A short time later I have to log off but my faith that not all players of this mod are jack ass twitch shooters is restored.

Agreed but it makes it much more of a special occasion when it does. I always seem to have more fun when I'm helping people than when I'm shooting them (unless they asked for it).

I just kill everyone who has an sniper rifle on sight. Everyone else I ask "friendly?"

Similar situation happened to me recently.

I was doing a supply run in Elektro and got aggroed by a zombie while in the pub. I ran into the office building and stationed at the top of the stairs with my Enfield. I had plenty of ammo so i managed to kill them off pretty easily. Just as I started to think I was in the clear, another survivor comes running up the stairs. I frantically yelled over mic that I was friendly, and he typed back the same. He was bleeding and low on ammo, so I decided to be a nice fella and help him get out of it alive. Still at the top of the stairs, another wave of zombies came in, and I cleared them out with ease. Feeling good about what I had done, I slowly escorted him down the stairs and planned to even help him out of the city. However, as we got to the doors of the office building, the fucker puts one right in the back of my skull. He must have been saving it just for me.

It's nice to see that there are good people out there. I wish my story worked out like yours. :(

After being killed by people I have just saved, and been killed while asking "friendly?", the shoot first ask questions later policy is my new thought process. I even flanked a guy waiting to amush me once and had my crosshairs on the back of his skull and asked him to stand down 4 times before I said "final warning" and he DC'd.

If you are carrying a weapon, and I get the drop, and can't safely run away, I will likely shoot you.

I commited my first murder today. I felt a little better when I searched the body to find he had almost identical gear/weaponry.

I'm glad someone actually helped you. I consider the encounters where players don't try to shoot me to be positive ones.
