Vertisce 158 Posted July 14, 2012 Holy crap...this has to be the most annoying thing in this game. No matter where I try I get the message stating I have to be on flat ground with no objects nearby. Seriously...I have pitched a tent on a slight slope before. I have also piched a tent between two trees...This one is a little ubsurd. I do hope it is not intended to be like this permanantly.Oh...I also just got hit by a zombe that broke my leg while I was at full health. Though this was fixed...no? Ok then... Guest Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) There is a method to the madness, here's a tutorial:Tent placement:As of now the tent placement seems to be very bugged. Though, the following steps seem to fix most of these problems:Crouch and enter first person view, look at the ground ahead of you, press G to open your gear and try to place the tent. It wont work the first time, so move back a little step using your S key and try again while your gear window is still open. Try this like 5-10 times, works! It is possible to place tents very close to trees, even under them, also, the area doesn't have to be perfectly flat. semipr0 402 Posted July 14, 2012 I'm not really seeing the point of tents until I can get in one and get out of the rain.Freaking rain. 29C body temperature is not a good thing and nothing sucks worse than having to leave the woods to find shelter in a zombie infested town, only to have the rain stop AFTER you've reached the town, wasting all the time you used to get there....cause seriously who actually camps NEAR a town with buildings you can enter? Not me...thats for sure, too many chances to have someone notice your fire....but even deep out in the trees I don't like keeping a fire going at night for too long, cause its basically a big SHOOT OVER HERE sign.....so its either continually light fires and kill them to maintain your body temperature...or get indoors somewhere.Give me a tent I can get inside AND store crap in...and one that has a more natural profile that hides well in a tree line and its undergrowth, and I might have time for tents. idunc 62 Posted July 14, 2012 I pitch a tent every morning if you know what I mean.

semipr0 402 Posted July 14, 2012 You know, you can store items into a tent, and you CAN prone in front of it and crawl into it.Right I know that, but the tent doesn't seem to be blocking rain...or wasn't last time I tried it.And storing things in it is of course a given...but why would I want to store ANYTHING in a tent that has a visual profile that is so unnatural and can be immediately recognized by its 90 degree line profile...even in the dark?Just saying the current mesh is obviously basic and needs some improvement in the area of making it a bit more functionally worthwhile to carry around...especially since it takes up a good chunk of non-tool inventory space. Half of it is covered.

Half of it is covered.Yeah I've had immense trouble doing that because of the buggy placement interface atm. And still the rain was going through the tent I had.I guess for attempting to keep a persistent resupply point for key supplies when you've died the tent is a good thing, but with the rain issue I was seeing and the buggy placement at the moment, they're a lot of trouble. I have an AKM, AKS-74u, Mossberg and M24 along with food, water, and ammo in my tent in case I die. That way I don't need to spend any time in Chernogorsk or other areas. Skint (DayZ) 138 Posted July 14, 2012 Problems with Tents:1. Very unreliable. Items disappear then reappear or whole tent disappears for days then reappears, all due to server issues.2. Very easy to spot. When viewed at a distance every tent is visible no matter where you place it, due to Arma removing surface textures (grass/shrubs) at long distance view. Even those under pine trees can be looted (ahem).3. Potential trap. See a tent? Is it a trap set by a Bandit? Aslo, if it's your own tent you could be being watched...For me, at the moment, they are not worth the risk, certainly not until the contents are only accessible by the placer. Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted July 14, 2012 That's all well and good until someone finds it. As big as this game map is people always seem to find your sent and trash it.Very true. But I consider everything I ever get in the game, already lost.So if my tent does get raided, oh well, that's what I signed up for, for trying out the Alpha version of the mod.And the gear on me? It's a perma-death game and I know it.
Adrien (DayZ) 30 Posted July 14, 2012 I placed a tent under a tree and I was not able to interact with it even by trying multiple times and disconnecting/reconnecting.
