If they have two arms, two legs, a head, a torso and are holding any form of weapon, it's probably a Bandit. Or it's a bear. either way best to put a bullet into it, closely followed by another one.

Theres bears in these woods, and bears are crazy....

I have opted for KOS anyone who is armed.

I'm done dying for being the noble one who gives the other person the benefit of the doubt.

If you have a gun in your hands and we cross paths i'm not going to let you get away without some bloodloss.

Interesting solution to banditry I thought of the other day though. No instakills. If you get shot you have 1-1.5 seconds before going unconcious. A chance to return fire.

How many bandits do you think would stop killing on sight if they knew they couldn't get away without being harmed?

I never said so.

But now it's a kill on sight on everyone basicly.

This is how it should be.

I refuse to trust a complete stanger, if they are armed and they are aware of my position they are a threat. I will remove the threat.

Its a harsh kill or be killed world out there, trust no one but your friends and you will live longer.

And it's sad. I've had some of my best in-game experiences with friendly strangers who i've crossed paths with but I am sick and tired of wasting evenings trying to recreate that experience especially if I've looted even a moderate amount of gear. Running around cherno and elektro like a madman trying to find toolboxes to take down the idiotic barbed wire in the firehouses and office buildings. Only to get mere minutes afterwards by some jackass.

The barbed wire spawn time is really getting on my fucking nerves. Placed barbed wire should despawn after an hour or something too. It's gotten ridiculous

No it's not.

That's a basic FPS-game aka deathmatch. Kill everything you see.

This is a survival game at it's core. And please, dont count ARMA into this, since it's not ARMA.

In the beginning it was quite ok, to find survivors to play with. Now it's just bandits, basicly. Or people to afraid to teamup. Because there's no real benefit to do so.

In a real world scenario, it wouldn't be like this.

It's also a competitive PvP game at it's core. Refer to "What is DayZ?"

In the beginning it was quite ok, to find survivors to play with.

This is basically a myth. Grouping up with random survivors was a mixed bag from the very beginning. Makarov (or Revolver) rampage murder was as likely as any result from approaching a random stranger back then. You could shout "friendly!" and they would say "Yes!" and then as soon as they saw you had a winchester that they wanted it was all "J/k lol blam blam."

Now it's just bandits, basicly.

It's clearly not. Only 17% of all living players are bandits. And this number is falling daily. It was ~19% this same time last week.

Or people to afraid to teamup. Because there's no real benefit to do so.

There are many incredible benefits to teamwork, and more coming.

The problem is, most random strangers in the game don't make very good partners to be quite honest. They don't listen to reason, don't play tactically, aggro zombies left and right, give up my position constantly, and most recently the last group of strangers I grouped with (4 in Cherno) got confused during a shoot out, turned around and shot me in the face. Didn't even finish me off so I got to listen to their voice chat celebrations of "I got the guy! He was right over here!" while I slowly bled out on the ground...

Then we all can sit around and wonder why I would rather group with people I already know and trust.

In a real world scenario, it wouldn't be like this.

In a real world scenario our primary focus would probably be planting crops and herding and breeding livestock. As it turns out, the real world doesn't make a very good game. That's kind of why games were invented in the first fucking place.

If he's wearing a ghillie suit and dissapears when you look at him he's probably a bandit...

Unless you're right next to him, you cant.

Which needs to be solved somehow, unless this game is intended for deathmatching.

It's intended that you don't know who is doing what. Figure it out.

Don't wait for a magical floating icon over their heads to tell you who is good and bad.

While they still had the humanity meter if someone had low humanity there char wore a diff outfit from other chars. Which was known as the bandit skin..... which rocket really needs to reestablish that skin in dayZ

I'm not.

I'm simply saying that the issue with this game at its current state is that people dont coop, due to being afraid of being killed as soon as they turn their backs.

There NEEDS to be some kind of small disadvantage to be a bandit. And no 15 ft. away heartbeat is not the way. Since you'll be dead when you're that close anyway. Or have another murder count.

Yes, people do. Everyone I know who plays the game plays it with other people, as do many people. Just do a random Youtube video hunt and see how many depict group play.

Now if you're talking about coop with random bugheads I run into in the game, okay. My reasons for not grouping up with these people have nothing to do with the game mechanics and everything to do with the fact that random strangers are generally bad at the game and are as likely to get me killed acting like an idiot or through unchecked friendly fire as anything else.

The day the game comes up with some arbitrary way to "force" me into grouping with every random 13-year-old, Dorito-munching slackjaw I bump into in the game is the day I go find another game to play.

There NEEDS to be some kind of small disadvantage to be a bandit.

There IS a LARGE disadvantage to being a bandit. It's called getting shot at all the goddamn time.

Bandits account for 18% of the alive players, but over 40% of deaths. (SOURCE.)

That's a disadvantage.

If you don't think it's severe enough I suggest you load up and get out there and try to make it 50% or 60%.

But if the "disadvantage" you're talking about involves the designers rolling in on fiery steeds carrying golden swords of divine justice and metting out punishments to those who act naughty well you can forget about it. It's not going to happen. rocket has made it absolutely clear. He would rather shut the project down entirely and walk away than add a system of arbitrary rules and punishments into the game.

So if you really think the game NEEDS these things to be fun then I would just stop playing now because you aren't going to find satisfaction in DayZ.

Watch them from 600m away and see if they kill people.

Just kill everybody. Nobody is your friend. If you be nice you will die.

stop trying to infect people with the KOS mentality.

If you see him first try to make it so he doesn't know you're there and see what he does to other people. Might be a 30min to 1 hour waiting and following journey but it's exciting too.

There was also one time when I asked "Friendly?" and got a "No." back. Most honest bandit ever.

Wow... I wanna meet that guy :D
