BETA Patch 94876 Broke; what next?

After a friend and I recently downloaded and installed the lastest Arma beta patch 94876. As soon as we launched the game we both started to experience issues. First off, there were less than 5 servers running 94876, as most servers were on 94444. We tried to join many 94444 servers, but they were all red X'd out, and neither of us were about to connect to one.

Upon joining US133, my friend was promted to choose a gender; his charater had been lost and reset. However, when I spawned, I had all my gear. I noticed that there was a tent right beside where I spawned in, so I decided to loot it. Upon leaving the tent, I heard a gun reload. I quickly looked at all my surroundings, freaking out that the owner of the tent had caught me stealing their items. Nothing could be seen in any direction.I thought that I might have accidentially hit "R". Then I heard reloading again (without shots). Then, 2 seconds later, my character had a broken bone and I was dead in another 2 seconds.

So the what I am wondering is: Did someone actually shoot me? Why did I only hear reloading? Was the character next to me the whole time, just invisible?

... And finially: Why are those who install the lastest beta patch 94876 not able to join 94444 servers? I thought all beta patches were backwards compatable; all have been able to run previous versions up with the exception of this last update.

Any thoughts / imput would be greatly appreciated.
